Is this normal?

I have this weird growth....Just kidding!

But seriously, the Scouts site I am working on (the one that has had the issue with PHP scripting and couldn't get the log in details for) doesn't have PHP or MySQL installed? Is this a normal thing? I thought all hosting companies would do this a standard!?!

And surprisingly, the person who is the registered owner of the site etc won't upgrade his account to the one that does support it...

Yup, There's so many host out there with so many options, you really need to do your home work. I think most have PHP and MySQL installed. Why won't they update the server? You don't always have to pay more to get some options they just need to be installed.
I can't hear what I'm looking at.

I'm not sure why they won't do. As far as I'm aware it's the same price. The person who registered the domain is a very unhelpful so and so! Unfortunately I was brought in to do the site after the domain was purchased! He is expecting the world for nothing!:mad:

Hiya Simon,

Just tell him that without the upgrade you won't be able to put the following on the site:

Make a list then here of all the features you cannot do (or don't want to do lol) without the upgrade.

No Forms at all. Don't even give them the option of the flash forms, just tell him no forms will work period.
No Shopping Carts of any kind....
And the list goes on to whatever you come up with.

make them realize that the upgrade is necessary if they want a decent site and that they are not locked into what they purchased. Even if they change, most places will give you a refund when you cancel. etc.

Just some ideas, hope it all works out for you/them :)

Just had a phone call with him, and after about 10 minutes of explaining that I can't change what the hosting company does, he reluctantly said he would upgrade the package. But he won't do it until next week.

So I told him not to expect what he wants until a week after it has changed over.

I'm not sure how he manages to work with the scouts....

Thanks for the tips Jo Ann :D

I think he is Inger. The thing is, because I new the old District Commissioner for the scouts who I'm doing the site for, I (stupidly) said I wouldn't charge for the site. With the understanding that it would be a one off thing and any further changes would be paid for.

But this new guy is expecting, basically, a whole new site because he "didn't like the old one". But the new site want's to have more contact forms, Secure parts etc, and when I said I'd need some payment (not a lot for what he wanted me to do) he didn't like that. The treasurer eventually got in contact with me to arrange payment. It's a never ending nightmare! At the minute I don't think I'll get a thank you!

There's a lot money to made in non profit. It's just a matter of positioning yourself in the right one and at the proper level.:)

Scouts? Non-profit? Ha! Slave child labor in cute little uniforms to pay for the district council members paychecks by having sales every other month of the year.
CoffeeCup... Yeah, they are the best!

Have something to add? We’d love to hear it!
