I have problems with a corrupt file...
Hello there,
I have problems with a corrupt file called pci.sys and windows will not start, the file directory is "%windir%\system32\drivers\pci.sys"
I want to know how to fix or replace that file with a new one, i have tried replacing it by connecting the hdd to another computer but it says that that file is being used and cannot replace it.
Thanks for any help

Cranium,
Look under accessories / system tools / system restore. That may provide the tools you need. If not, then turn off your computer, then using the installation disk, restart the computer and look for the restore or repair utility.
If you are not familiar with the inner workings of your computer you may want to take it to a repair shop that you can trust.
You obviously have access to a working computer, so try entering a google search for something like pci.sys or "corrupt pci.sys" and see if you get any hits.

Bill is correct. A repair installation should correct this issue.
Put in the WinXP CD. Boot PC. Choose install WinXP (it will detect previous installation and prompt you to choose overwrite with a new installation or repair existing installation).

I tried renaming my Windows XP machine, once. It wouldn't respond to Jamal.
