Scott: Lol!

Jo Ann: Thanks for the tip but as I mentioned I have already switched from Spyware Doctor (which I used for four years and LOVED it) to another software called Webroot Security Essentials, though now I am second guessing myself because Webroot has horrible reviews all over the internet. I can't seem to find a single positive review... perhaps I should switch back to Spyware Doctor, but not sure if I could get my money back for Webroot, the software was $60.00. :(

Ok, this won't go far with those who dislike Microsoft. I have been using the free Microsoft Security Essentials since MS discontinued One Care (which I had used for 3 years). Never had any problems or infections.....and it's free! Simple to use and transparent. Sorta just feel like they know best when integrating with windows. I also use the free Malwarebytes and run it weekly. The combination has been dirt cheap and effective for me.

What do you need a firewall application for? Just stay away from hacker sites, don't use IE and do not use Outlook. A few simply rules to keeping your system clean. ;)

The first is the most important fer sure. Also I stay away from using peer to peer software.

Actually, at the bottom of one of the CC pages is a trust rating website that I think is excellent and offers a browser toolbar.

Sorry if this has already been mentioned.

Add: it is was on here somewhere? That's how I found WOT.

Most people get infected because their friend Betty sent them and email with an attachment that they just had to open. Pretty sad when they find out Betty never sent that email.

Windows Firewall is all I've been using for the past few years, have had no issues with it on XP or Windows 7 so far :)

As it turns out, Scott and everyone was right. The security software you pay for is no better than the free stuff:

In fact, in some cases, it's actually worse:
