There was a freebie option offered by a Dutch company last year but they've withdrawn it due to 'abuse' and I haven't found a suitable replacement. In their product, you would feed in the HTML files and upload an obfuscated version to the server where your site was. All the end user would see was gibberish when examining the source code but it would execute correctly. It must be possible to put your finished through such box of tricks which would decrypt it prior to execution. Don't know, but it seems the sort of thing that you guys could do just before breakfast ...

Why would you want to mask your code Juan?

Hi Jo Ann,

Well, I can think of a number of reasons. Mostly to do with the right to privacy and with protecting confidential information such as eMail addresses, telephone nos, financial details, and a large etc ...

I don't mask my own code so I cannot say how good any of the solutions are, but there seems to be quite a few options around ...

someone told me this was a good alternative - but it's not free:

You can obscure the code - but IF anyone really want to look at it - they can...

Thanks for the link Morten and yes, it does look absolutely brilliant!... however, a bit pricey for what I had in mind ... hence my original post to this Forum. There must be a market out there where this type of product sold for < $100 can do very well indeed!.

I am aware that ultimately you cannot be 100% safe but one does not want to make it too easy to all the bots 'harvesting' EMail addresses and whatever other info they can get their mitts on.

Maybe if there is more demand, the boss will look into this. Here's hoping ...

If you are thinking of protecting mail addresses on websites, try CC Form builder.
If you want to password protect, or restrict the access to webpages, check out CC Website Access manager.
Ha en riktig god dag!

and if you don't want information such as names and addresses stealable by bots, put them in an image so they aren't highlightable or copyable as text. :)

Thanks to you all for your comments.

Inger, I do have C.C. Website Access mgr. It is nice and it works well, but it does not (as far as I can tell) integrate with anything ie. the users/pages & privs/restrictions and relationships are not accessible programmatically from anywhere else. Would be nice if they sat in a nice little SQL table somewhere ...

Jo Ann, thanks for the suggestions, but what I really really want is what the Stunnix people are selling (as per Morten's link). Only thing is that it may well be the proverbial sledge hammer to crack a rather small nut and although I am sure it is worth every penny, I find it far too expensive.

Hence my posting the suggestion in the first place ... I'm sure that some enterprising, innovative and up-and-comming concern such as C.C. could do well with such a product.
