Ignoring Queries In A Non-specific...

I am trying out the sitemapper before I buy... one of my sites is a web directory which creates files/pages for every listing including a search page among other things. The directory now has over 700 listings which is way too many for any type of manual editing.

I know I can ignore specific queries like http://www.mywebsite.com/index.php?search=Technician with technician being one of hundreds of categories or listing that could be there. Is there a way to block any "search" in a general way like a wildcard? Like http://www.mywebsite.com/index.php?search=

I talked with our programmer on this and he said in theory it should work like http://www.mywebsite.com/index.php?search=

I don't have any dynamically generated Websites, so I would love to hear from you if it did work.

I tried that thinking theoretically and it didn't work but I am going to try it again with a fresh file after I go move a ton or two of snow. :o

NO LAUGHING AT ME (especially you Scott :D)

:)
I don't think so. It would treat the * as part of the query.

Well here is an update, it got weird too. I tried a fresh attempt at scanning after reopening the Sitemapper program and I re-tried using http://www.mywebsite.com/index.php?search= and it worked... but it eliminated ALL queries AND this time it did not index any pages on the top level directory. Only pages in the first level directories.

Tomorrow I will try this on another computer running Windows XP. I have a suspicion that Windows 7 might be messing with me again as I have experienced "things" that were working, then stopped and suddenly started working again. One such "thing" was my browsers suddenly stopped remembering my logins to various sites and forums then started remembering again.

I am not paranoid... just suspicious! :P

I have logged this in as a feature update. Our programmer said he should be able to implement this correctly. Probably will be a few weeks though.

I talked with our programmers a bit more on this. In the Queries to ignore, enter in just search=

This should work.
