I'm not great at any of this... much more a hobby than anything else, so I'm sure I'm missing something basic but when I submit to Google, I get the following:
Sitemap is HTML
Your Sitemap appears to be an HTML page. Please use a supported sitemap format instead.
I have tried changing from "Both" to "XML Only" and still get the same result. It's at:
joedemers.com/sitemap
Thanks for any help

XML is its own format. You cannot change a page back and forth from html to xml. I would strongly suggest you invest in CC's sitemapper program. It will solve your problem because it will create the XML for you. I love the program.

That's what I'm using. I was referring to the "Output Options" in the program when I mentioned changing it.
Oh, Ok.
When you reference the sitemap then you must add the .html on the ending.

When your sitemap is created, there will be a .HTML and a sitemap.xml file. The XML file is the one you submit to the search engines, not the HTML file.

I added it both on the upload and the reference with Google but still get the same message.

And did you add it like this:
www.yoursite.com/sitemap.xml
www.yoursite.com/sitemap.xml

I did but used the .html, not the .xml like Scott mentioned. I'll do that and let you know... by the way, I appreciate the help.

Well, at least I got a different error message, so this are progressing. This is the message:
General HTTP error: 404 not found
We encountered an error while trying to access your Sitemap. Please ensure your Sitemap follows our guidelines and can be accessed at the location you provided and then resubmit.
I submitted it under both http://www.joedemers.com/sitemap.xml and http://joedemers.com/sitemap.xml
I never much cared about the sitemap in the past but now I'm trying to put the shopping cart to use.

Joseph,
I think your sitemap is at http://www.joedemers.com/sitemap/sitemap.xml rather than in the root directory as you specified.
