v3 RSD - grid and framework questions...

Just wondering if v3 RSD will still have the full functionality of v2.5 regarding Bootstrap and Foundation. I know RSD3 will be adding grid, which is great but just wanted to check that all of our current sites built with either bootstrap or foundation will still be workable/editable. And we'll also be able to create new Bootstrap and Foundation sites as well - for the times that we do not want to be using grid elements just yet.

Thanks for any input!

(I know I can open a support questions on this if needed - no rush on the responses though)

Yes, I know that RSD3 is not released yet but there have been emails and tweets regarding different functionality about the product. I was just curious to find out more specific information on the product and where v3 will take us.

I'm sure CC has some type of road map for the software especially regarding major feature questions such as these.

Cheers!

I received an E-Mail yesterday from CoffeeCup with the following quote

"We know you're wondering, and the answer is 'Yes'. RSD V3 will have the ability to open CSS Grid projects. Plus you'll be able to convert your Foundation and Bootstrap sites with it too."

so it seems that we will at least be able to convert existing Bootstrap and Foundation projects.

Another trick may also work with the transition from RSD 2 to RSD 3: I was (and still am) not too comfortable using a mobile-first framework. So before upgrading to RSD 2, I saved all RSD Coffeegrinder 1 themes (including the blank ones), imported them into RSD 2 and were than able to begin desktop-down projects even with RSD 2. I assume that I will do something simular when I upgrade to RSD 3.

Hope this helps

Best wishes

Thanks Edgar,

I, too, received that email - and did purchase grid builder as well. That's kind of what made me think to ask these questions.

I guess I just really wanted to make sure that I would still be able to open existing v2.5 bootstrap / foundation sites and continue to make edits and export them without any issues. I would really still like to be able to create new bootstrap and foundation sites as they are in 2.5, too. I'm looking forward to sites that use grid as well, but being able to build/edit them both ways is very important.

I wonder if v3 will just add a new tab with the grid options?

CC's Grid Builder is currently mobile-up in the Grid Editor's media queries. CC might change that by the time RSD 3 rolls around. But, CGB is live now, and its mobile-first. But, CC may not want to encourage users to use a deprecated framework in another version of RSD. CC will still be employing Bootstrap and Foundation frameworks because they are so popular and proven, and CC had created their components. Css grids are independent of frameworks. So its up to CC to make an exception. I's contact support and make a feature request. But, really, mobile-first is a far better way to design. I was leery of it too at first, but it forces you to design better.

Have you seen this link?
https://cup.cm/2HfkOhq

It looks they the guy is using "RSD v3" but looked at the top of the screen, the label is "CSS Grid Builder" and that confused me as he is not addressing he is using the RSD v3 when he begun. Anyway, it looks he is presenting a good tutorial.
I want to know confirmation from you guys, before I jump on to the RSD v3 as I have similar questions as you have raised above.

Thanks.

Yohannes, This forum has been quite confusing for a while because both RSD and SD3 have been discussed here. It was only today that SD3 got its own forum.
Ha en riktig god dag!
