V3 container question

Hello all, Since V3 unlike RSD 1.5 - 2.5 that used rows and columns and now only containers I have 2 questions:
1. If I add a paragraph should it be added in a container first say as example name it "Container-1- paragraph" and than add a paragraph element in it and give that a name such as "paragraph-1" ??? Or don't add any container.??

2. When making a paragraph and saving it say as " paragraph-1" if I want to use that same "paragraph-1" on a different page BUT with different text should I on the new page also add an "ID" say call it "add name" so text will different only on that page??

If this is in wrong forum section please move it.

Thanks in advance,
Ray

I like to put paragraphs headings etc in containers and say give them a class of content wrapper. That way I can control the margins and paddings of the containers etc.

As for paragraphs. I would give them all general styling with the purple option. Then if I needed a different style I would give the paragraph a class relating to that circumstance. ID can only be used once. Hope that helps.

You don't have to put paragraphs into containers.
What I usually do, is leaving the 'body' at width 'none', and then I use a 'wrapper' container for all the contents. That wrapper is strictly not necessary either, but I find it for practical reasons convenient to have something 'wrapping around' everything. I can then set the width and the outer margins/paddings once and don't have to worry about it later, that something might be too wide.
After that I use as few containers as I can get away with. Usually one each for heading, content and footer. Most often the navigation needs it's own container. And if I use some special 'component', it needs its own wrapper.
I need a wrapper if I want to position something fixed or absolute, and I need a wrapper if I have set flex to column and want something to display row - or vice versa.

And then the naming. I try not to use the generated class names like 'paragraph-1' and such. I try to give the classes meaningful names, what is meaningful to me, unless I use one of the bootstrap or foundation predefined class names. And I try to be consistent through the pages, paragraphs are very much used, and all those that are to look alike, get the same class name. The same with e.g. images.

But like you, your questions are the same as I had when I started up SD3. ;)

Thanks Phil I appreciate the help and you answered my container question.

As far as paragraph I want all paragraph styles for all pages the same - only thing different on each page would be the text. Thats why I asked about using ID for page. Should I than add a additional class to each different page for the paragraph even though the style is same on all but the text has to be different.? This may be a real newb question but got confused again

No, If the style is to be the same, no extra class or any ID necessary. I usually use IDs id I want to target something special. E.g. on my honey site (url in signature) I have two small slide shows, on two different pages. I used IDs there in order to have the slideshows pick the right images for each.

Once again Thank You Inger for sharing your knowledge I have slowly been learning what is explained but get brain freezes every now and then but between you, Phil, Eric, Wayan, Twinstream, Frank and so many more it slowly after trial and error does kick in. A very deep learning curve to be sure. Remember how long it took me for 1.5 :D

All the V3 questions, comments are helping me understand V3 a little better but I'm still struggling with the placement of Containers. Rows and Columns was easier for me to work with. Any ideas where I might start?

Hi Carolyn
If you have to compare Just think of the body as a row but now there is only 1 row available, then a container as a column, but instead of column spans (1 -12) use % widths (or px, vw, em or rem if you can do the maths :D)

The body unlike in the RSD version can hold any element, (in rsd can only hold a column) but I find it better to put in a container (usually the container with the tag "MAIN" this container (column) then holds all the other elements you want to put in
so, for example, you can insert a container tag = header" then a H1 as a header title & or a logo image, then a container (tag = nav) which can hold your navigation, then another container tag = section or just plain div up to you, for holding the main content of the page

Should you wish I could do a video explaining the set up & styling in basic terms for you to get a better understanding.(mind you I don't have Mac, but I assume the way to do it & principles would be the same

Ok
I will do one today, however,
We have moved permanently to Java now and today we are having the roof leaks fixed, a wall which looks like it's about to fall over re-built, and the electric box upgraded (more power needed & a new box fitted so I can pre-pay online, so there may be some disruption, but I will try to have something ready & available to watch by tomorrow (Java Time)
