Scott,

Great looking site!! Well done, sir!

Regarding load times...it is a bit slow for me. It seems the first image (blue background) and the image with the clouds and the one with the pen and paper load way after the rest. Just FYI

Also for reference, I generally have download speeds around 65mbps.

Thank you Mark. I reduced all the images as much as possible in photoshop and compressed them in CC's Website Insights. Not sure what else I can do but I will work at it some more.

Right now from my network it takes 45 seconds for the entire website to load. This image alone is 1.2mb Scott

All the others seem to be around 125k.

Phew Scott, what was I thinking. I have been fluffing around the website and a few others today... must have missed that tree one. Cut the trees down to size now... lost some quality but still looks good.

For my big glossy images I tend not to reduce them below 120-100k, as I lose too much quality. Everything is a compromise.

Very nice website, Scott.

I'm curious how you are designing websites for your clients that allow them to edit them directly... are you using WordPress, or something like that?

It would be great if RSD has that capability some day.

Thanks Steve,

I use Surreal CMS. It costs money, but not much and I can pass that cost onto the client. Its very simple to set up, RSD friendly and easy for clients to use. If CC released similar software I'd buy it!

Scott, thanks for the info. I'll look into it.

Have you considered any other CMS approaches - direct website add-ons or services (like Surreal CMS)?

I looked into a bunch but they seemed more complicated. I didn't like that I had to manually add tags to my html docs, so I avoided those types. Stuck with the fully online CMS approaches, and settled on Surreal over Drupel. Surreal is fast for me to setup and I have a client who loves the ease at which they can make simple edits and additions. I only give my clients the ability to change the text content and individual images, not the overall RSD layout and style... that would be playing with fire.

Thanks again for the feedback.

I looked at Surreal CMS, and got the impression that you have to add "class" tags to each part of the website that you want to be remotely editable, like class="editable" for divs, etc. How do you do this... after the website is done in RSD and then with a code editor?

Nope, you log into Surreal, go to your site and highlight the areas you allow your clients to edit, press publish... done! It adds the code for you. When a client logs in they just edit within the boxes you originally highlighted. Very intuitive for the layman, and quick for me.

They have a trial period if interested... http://www.surrealcms.com/

I sound like a fluffing salesman. Like I said, if CC developed the same I'd buy it!

Have something to add? We’d love to hear it!
