Google Search has problems with my sitemap.xml: when I want to index it in the Searech Console I enter the address where the sitemap.xml file is located - and get the message:
Sitemap can be read, but contains errors. Sitemap is HTML - Your sitemap is obviously an HTML page. Please use a supported format for sitemaps instead. Examples - line 2 - tag: html

My first lines in the xml file originally read like this:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<urlset xmlns="http://www.sitemaps.org/schemas/sitemap/0.9">
<url>
<loc>https://doc-stories.com/</loc>
What is wrong

sorry for the uproar, I found the error:
if you enter the address of the sitemap in Google you have to enter it completely - not just the path - like this:
https://www.doc-stories.com/sitemap.xml
I had only typed https://www.doc-stories.com/
. Well. it's summer ....
