Really looking forward to using v3 of this program - but before I take a client site offline from learning - I need to update several file/documents that are currently on the site available for download and reading.
Suggestions as to the easiest (safest) way to update files in my site resources? If I do a file replace - will it rename files automatically on the page source code - or would I need to go to each page and change manually?
Thoughts or suggestions?
Or is this going to be an ADD file needed - visit each page re-point to the new file from the link on the page - then delete the old document file once it is not being used anymore by the site?
Thank you for any assistance with this question.
RSD 2.5 build 2425 site document use...
A couple of thoughts about file libraries that visitors can download/view and read. (I'm assuming you mean documents like .docx, .pdf, .xlsx, etc.)
I USE AN EXTERNAL DOCUMENTS FOLDER
1. I keep my files in a folder external to the project file itself. By this, I mean that I don't import the files into the project resources. This keeps the project file lean. The software seems to run more efficiently for me. I upload the documents folder to the server when I upload the rest of the site.
2. An external documents folder doesn't change anything about linking. You make your links just like before, but you have to make sure the URL is correct.
3. If your docs are external to the project, you can edit them anytime and then just upload them to the server as long as you keep the filename the same. In this case, all the links in your site will work.
4. If you change the name of the doc file, you have to update any links in your site that link to that file.
IF YOU IMPORT YOUR DOCUMENTS INTO YOUR PROJECT FILE RESOURCES:
If you have your documents saved elsewhere, edit the file and then import it into your resources. If it has the same name, you will have the option to keep both or replace the one that is there.
If you don't have your document anywhere else except for in your resources, export your project. You can then edit the document and import it back into your project.
