Responsive Thoughts.... - Post ID 261751
I recently saw a feature I have not seen before, the horizontal menu across the top shrinks when you start to scroll down the page. I have not had time to dive into RSD, YET, but assume this is a very easy thing to do. What are your thoughts on this 'design'?
Also, I noticed as you mouse over a picture, each one zooms slightly. Not criticizing this, I kind of like it, but is it too predictable and gets old fast?
(This is not my site, but a very smooth one I have come across.) http://www.catchfence.com

Seems that the site is relying heavily on java script.

It's js and it's done on a lot of sites.
I can't hear what I'm looking at.

So, is this something you guys recommend for a beginner, expert, or not at all? Or is this simply a designers preference?
If that's what you want to do that's fine. It's kinda a catchy affect.

Well, it really depends on what you mean as beginner. There are alot of recipes for javascripts, that just about anyone can use if they follow the installation and linking correctly. But if you are new to css and html in general, it would be best to first create your site, then add special effects.
I don't know the specifics behind creating a more or less pure js site. Some years ago pure flash sites were popular, but that ended because mobile devices were not able to display them. Besides, search engines also had problems listing them. How is it for search engines to list js sites? Does anyone know?

Search engines can handle js just fine now. Just take a look at the major sites using it. I think you should only use it where there's no other way to achieve the same result
