Hey friends and fans, we just pushed a big fresh update for RSD (the official V1.05 :)).

A lot of cool things have been happening with Responsive Site Designer since the last version. Our list shows 4o+ updates and improvements. Here's an overview of the highlights.

Updated editing pane: It’s now clearer when the app is in editing mode, especially for people with less experience with RSD. We also updated the ‘add link’ UI and workflow.

Faster saving, loading, and exporting: For projects with a large number of images, or with heavy-sized images, this could take a bit of time. Now we hear what most of you are saying: “never use large images, always optimize them for the web.” We agree, try to get them down to as few KBs as practical and stay away from images over 1MB. Nevertheless, we felt these processes needed an overhaul, and we’re totally liking the improved speeds and new informative visuals. Let us know what you think!

Improved font rendering: Different browsers render fonts differently, nothing we can do about that. However, on Windows our embedded browser was not rendering the fonts as sharp as they could be. We improved that.

New ‘replace image’ workflow: Want to change out an image for a different version? The new workflow cuts out about 3 steps: now simply open the resources dialog, select the image that needs to be replaced, click replace, select, done!

Added text-align to certain elements: This makes centering elements within a container (or column) a lot easier. Thanks for pointing this out, Shane! We went ahead and added more typographical controls to certain non-text elements, all these settings will be inherited by their children (the elements inside) as well. How handy!

Easier keyword management: Just drag-n-drop to reorder them, sweet :)

Font icon improvements: We removed some extra spacing that this element had mysteriously acquired along the way and added a control that makes it easier to manage its vertical position. This is especially useful when font icons need to placed next to other inline-blocks.

Executed a few quirks: There were a few anomalies reported. While they did not appear for everybody, some experienced a disappearing edting pane, containers blocking drops, or were not always able to open a project. Now these inconveniences should be gone (yay).

Updated controls for the responsive image element: Improvements to the slider and workflow make it easier to zoom-in on images at lower breakpoints (using focal point) or to swap out images for smaller versions at these lower breakpoints (or bigger versions on higher breakpoints using a mobile-1st workflow).

That’s just the highlights! Here’s some more:
  • Improved the page manager behavior making it easier to drag and reorder pages
  • Made sure a removed breakpoint is not saved (duh)
  • Fresh vertical-align controls added for all elements
  • Brand-new Max-height controls
  • Boosted the linear gradient and background size controls
  • Improvements to images on Firefox and retina screens (thanks for finding this Tyrone)
  • Color picker for gradients now always shows color of stop point
  • Refreshed the background image URL input box
  • Updates to resources and folder name conventions (to make them easier to interpret)
  • Various improvements for importing RLMP projects (images, row colors)

A hot update for Responsive Site Designer is ready! We’ve been busy @CoffeeCup adding fresh features and beefing up existing tools in the new V1.1.

Picture Element: We updated the app with the new HTML 5 picture element. With it, you can serve up different images based on display width. Simply change an image at a breakpoint of your choice in RSD so mobile browsers don’t have to download huge images intended for big desktop monitors. Read more about responsive images.

As a bonus, we added the ability to add Alt Text to pictures right from the design pane!

Extended Effects: We reorganized the design pane and added new effect controls like Scale, Rotate, and Translate. Now you can enhance your elements by resizing, turn them left, right, even upside-down, overlap other objects, or make them transparent.

Resource Tip: It’s good practice to design for performance and use images that are light weight. So we added a new tip that will warn you anytime you add a resource that is larger than 1MB, reminding you to optimize that file.

Improved Performance: Several backend adjustments and tweaks were made that drastically improve the overall performance of RSD. One big result of these changes is that you can now include up to 30 pages in a project.

Website & Articles: We’ve made a number of articles to help everybody get a better understanding of how to use the app’s features. We’re by no means done, more articles will be added but now you can read about the various site elements and learn how to style them in the design pane Plus we made a big update to the RSD product page.

And that’s just the start! This fresh release also:
  • Fixes how an element is added so when it is clicked will insert below the selected element.
  • Improves the Undo/Redo and Copy/Paste actions (stopping them from hiccuping)
  • New transition tools to apply actions to your elements.
  • Tweaked how classes are auto-generated and added new reset options — helpful!
  • Adds a new Unordered List Link element with fresh design controls for each link.
  • Has new options for editing lists including bullet point appearance and color.
  • Makes sure the text editor controls stop doing disappearing tricks (in a DDE project).
  • Adjusts text link options in the text editor so that it can produce valid HTML.

Know someone who would enjoy RSD?
We bet many of you have been bragging to friends and colleagues about this unique app and the mobile-friendly masterpieces you’ve created. On our end at least, we’ve received tons of requests from people wanting to get in on the pre-release. So we have decided to open up a special (and secret) pre-release path that you may share. Watch for the email announcement later today with more information on this RSD update and your personal share link.

As always, thank you for all the feedback that everyone has provided so far. With your help, we will make RSD even better.

Hey everyone!

We just released RSD 1.2!!

Here's a quick rundown of where V1.2 differs from V1.1:
  • Lines breaks are now preserved when pasting text into the text editor,
  • Improved performance allows for an increased number of pages per project (this is something we try to do for evey update),
  • Fixed an issue where characters would be removed from paypal buttons,
  • Improved compatibility with the latest OS X 10.11 El Capitan Beta 3 (Mac version only),
  • Several improvements related to the usage of custom classes (preventing them from being removed on a state reset under certain conditions) and IDs (don't make them behave the same when duplicated across pages),
  • Don't convert special characters to HTML when used in title or head sections,
  • Fixed an issue with real time preview of font icons,
  • Improved inline link selection (Windows version only),
  • We created a trial version (for the people that can't believe this is real ).

There's a few more things, but these are the main items. And now the app is live for everybody else too, give us some shout outs amongst friends and in the social media please!
