Questions about creating a search input

I want to add a search input field and submit button. The purpose is to submit a search to Google/Bing/whatever for the text the user enters into the input field. The submit button, of course, submits it. I can do it in HTML editor. I can lay it out in Site Designer v3. What I don't get is how to make that field and button do what I want them to do.

Hi, there might be others who are wondering about the same, so if you could post your solution, it would be a good idea.

Another good idea would be to change your user name to something else than your email address. This is an open forum, and I wouldn't like making it too easy for the spammers. ;)

@Inger

Thanks. I have now taken care of the username.

Regarding the solution to my original question. Understand I am trying to figure out how to use Site Designer. I added a "Form Container" with a "Button" and an "Input". For each item, I entered the following information. I will, of course, ignore anything that deals with visual settings.

Form Container
Selected Styles
Under ID Selector
ID: entered Form1
Seleted Elements
Under Selected Element properties
Action: left empty
Method: Get
Enctype: Form Url Encoded
No Validate: did not check the box
Attributes: did not select anything

Input
Selected Elements
Name: I gave it a name
Title: Gave it a title
Pattern: left empty
Form: entered the form name
Required: did not check box
Attributes: did not select anything

Button
Selected Elements
Type: Selected Submit
Form: Entered the form name
Action: Entered "http://www.bing.com/search"
Method: Selected Get
Enctype: Selected From Url Encoded
No Validate: did not check box
Attributes: did not select anything

When I tested this it passed the what I had entered into the input field to the search engine.

Hope this is helpful.

This kind of thing I feel is missing for people who are trying to learn to create websites and learning how to do it with Site Designer. Maybe it is just me.

If you are thinking of the 'back end' script, that makes a form or search work, yes, we have said so many times.
I have been using Google search a couple of times, and I have a wee library of building blocks (see URL in my signature), where I explain how to create it. If you go looking, see in the SD3.x box under Navigation, the top one in the right column. Below the image I have the explanation how to make it.
Maybe I should try your method one day... ;)

I meant to imply that what is needed is more documentation on a lower level for beginners. I know how to make the link in HTML the problem is that in Site Designer I drop the element on the page but now I have to determine how to make it work. For instance, I am having another problem now of trying to put a Facebook link onto my page. I have the element there but how do I get that link to go to the Facebook page I want to link to? In Selected Element Properties when I bring up the Element Tree I can select Follow or Share. I just want to send them to the page. Where do I put the URL? If I choose Follow the URL is grayed out. If I choose Share I can enter the URL. All I want to do is send them to the Facebook page. Where can someone look up this kind of information for Site Designer? That is what is missing with Site Designer. They have tutorials for the software but there is no documentation on how to do things like this.

An accidental space got included at the beginning and end of the link, which I'm sure was intended to be https://cse.google.com/cse/

@Frank Cook.

Thanks. It is not the information I am looking for. I revised my replay above to better explain.
