Novice questions with RSD - Page 1 -...

I have had RSD for several months and struggle with it every time I try to sit down and do anything. My current web site is languishing because this tool is so woefully un-intuitive (at least to me), and the documentation su... is lacking. It really shouldn't be this hard ;).

First couple of questions:

I cannot figure out how to name my pages. I read one post that mentioned that you select the "page icon". Gosh, I wish I could find a page icon within RSD, but I've searched high and low to no avail.

I cannot figure out how to add a link to an image. Maybe that's not "proper" in responsive design (I'll admit I don't know the rules of responsive design), but it would appear that in RSD there is no way to to add an HREF to an image.

I just want to open this dumb project in Coffee Cup HTML and edit it. While I'm not a great coder, I've been marking up language since WordStar (yes, I'm THAT old) so I could at least muddle my way through it (I muddled through my current web site using the HTML editor). So... can I open an RSD project in the CC HTML Editor? Obviously, all changes made in the HTML editor would not transfer back over to RSD, but at this point, I'd just like to abandon RSD (and be bitter about my lost $$, ha ha) get a web site created, and call it good.

Thanks, Dana W.

Hi,

I'm no expert. And I agree about the documentation for sure.

"I cannot figure out how to name my pages."
The Pages icon is located at the top center, the left most icon with a drop down menu. In the drop down menu select "Manage Project". You will see a list of the pages you have created. Left click on the name and change it to whatever you like.

"I cannot figure out how to add a link to an image."
Click on the "Elements" icon in the pane on the right side of the screen. Left click, hold and drag "Picture Link 4x3" to your grid. After you have the pace holder, go to the Design Pane (Pencil). Left click on the placeholder to get the attributes for that element. You will see a filed title "Href". Enter the URL to be linked to there.

You can choose a different size in the drop down before you drag and drop. I've found that it really doesn't make that much difference which size you choose, except when you use it as a place holder to design the site before you add content.

Hope this helps.

I am very new also and tried from the start to create my new website from scratch without knowing anything about RSD. That was a brick wall. I found my aha moment after forcing myself to recreate the Coffeecup Visons Tutorial from a blank project. From there I have steadily worked my way back to starting my new website but am allowing myself the time to learn the basics and fine tune my ideas. It really gets to be fun and interesting when you can just start designing ! Adding a link to a picture was one of my first questions. After adding the picture select it and go to the design pane. Choose the dropdown placeholder and select local image which will open project resources. There you can add a picture to select.
Bootstrap 5 CSS Grid.

Thanks for the feedback, all. I'll look at it tonight, or this weekend, or...

I think that I misunderstood the Pages drop down... I thought you were just giving your pages "names", but I guess this is supposed to be the HREF name. Right now, mine are "named" Index, About, Gallery, Contact. I guess I should change those to "About.html", "Gallery.html" etc. in that Pages drop down box? Sorry to be so stupid ;).

I program dataloggers for a living, so I'm not completely clueless, but I'm not a web designer. I am also a glass artist, and I'd rather have my "fun" that way, than spending my fun time learning RSD :).

I often talk about how many people in the world these days want the Easy Button. I was hoping that RSD was the EasyButton!

BTW, Picture Link was what I was missing. I started with one of the templates, and the pictures used for it were apparently just "pictures" and not "picture links".

Hi There from sunny Bali

You don't need put thee page names as index.html in the "manage Pages"bit that will confuse the whole thing.

leave the page names in that section as they are,,,,,, the link from text picture whatever is made in the Href part of the element so to link an image to Gallery for example would be placed in the html bit as ( gallery.html ).

I have a very simple video all about starting with RSD it's very basic simple but might help get you going to understand, It will be ready later today (Bali Time) if you would like to have a look see if it helps drop me an e-mail & I will send you the link to it in dropbox. If you are wanting to do something specific, that you are struggling with, let me know and I can try to make a video all about that.

There are also some good videos on youtube that other users here have made, although I can't see them, or load my video to you tube because there is a problem with you tube here in Indonesia (well at least with my connection) just google about coffeecup videos or something like that

Have a great day everybody wherever in the world you are

Hi Wayan.. I'm like you. Retired (64 yo) but wanted to find a good hobby that will keep the 'Grey Matter' working!
Hell, with RSD, seems like my 'Grey Matter' is working overtime :)
My problem is fully understanding css3 and html5. Back in my day we built sites with tables and used css only for font, text size etc, Not layout. I'm giving myself a refresher course on css and layout.

I'd like to see the video you are building. I myself use camtasia for making training videos.
I looked at your profile here on CC and I don't see any way to 'Drop ya an email'. How does someone privately contact a member via email without putting it in a post?

If you need hosting for your training videos, I can provide that for Free. I'm not Youtube but I do have the capabilities to host many videos. Just let me know and I'll set ya up.

Thank you all for your help. I got far enough along this evening that I have button links and image links working correctly.

No, it's not fun yet. I'd rather be cutting glass

Hi Don

Just look on my profile there is my e-mail address

I'm going to check out cantasia now, because mine is very simple basic (but good enough to get the message across. Best advice I can give anyone is come to Bali, sit on the beach watch the sun go down or go to the Hymalaya's pitch a tent, and chant some mantra's about forgetting what you know already, forget what you knew before, just go with the flow, don't question how or what or why don't worry about css or html at the moment, because it takes care of everything for you, just design something, or play with one of the themes.

Cheers

Wayan (not yet sitting on the beach chanting mantra's but another couple of hours, and a couple of cold beers down the neck and who knows)

Hello All,
Fairly new to RSD and RLMP though I have owned Coffee Cup products for years. I am trying to work on a page in RSD. The page was previously exported from RLMP, but after a few problems I got it so that I can work with it.

While working on a page and having the "elements" pane selected, I try to drag an element (container) into an existing column but none of the blue guidelines show. When I release my mouse it's like nothing has happened. When I mouse over the existing columns and containers (without dragging anything), all of the blue guides show. This issue just started on a page that I have been building for awhile using the drag and drop for elements. Any help is greatly appreciated.
