What I need is a website made with RSD that has been live for over 3 months. I want to look into what may be an issue with image seo and google crawls on the srcset RSD uses. The src for images goes to a base64 gif and I was thinking the js polyfill should make them rankable but Twinstream was thinking not. There is conflicting info online and would like to test a RSD site for results. The images need to be live for 3 month and have basic seo with alt & title done and I can check to see what's getting picked up.

I can't use my site or Gary's since we get around that with image pop up scripts, I use colorbox so mine only has the RSD srcset on the thumbnails and I use a href to my images which does get picked up. So the results would be a handy bit of info to know and if we need to make the request for a basic program core change.

This one was built using RSD, and has been operational since mid-June and has many images on it.

That site has the og image link in the HEAD so the only images being picked up there are those. For example og_mawcitylights_250.jpg but none of the srcset jpgs.

Ugh, I hope we get a few others, that's not a good sign so far.

I have done a number of websites which have been up for months or years using RSD. Most originally done in Grinder and will be/are being changed as time allows to FF.

To see if your site has been indexed by search engines (Bing, Google, Yahoo etc), enter the URL of your domain with "site:" before it, i.e. "site:mystunningwebsite.com".

Then to find out what images are indexed click the image tab in the search results.

"src" and "href" for images are indexed by the search engines. "srcset" for images are not. This is the issue we are trying to resolve.

In Russ's website, http://www.andycrafts.co.uk/ images that you click on and have a "href" will be indexed.

However on his page http://www.andycrafts.co.uk/hand1.html where he has a regular image http://www.andycrafts.co.uk/ltjumpersb.jpg it does not get indexed because it only has a "srcset". (which are beautiful pictures of colorful infant sweaters.)

This occurs on everyones website I have tested built with RSD 1.5 and up using the picture element and picture link element (excluding the "href" of course).

Well it's too bad we didn't get more of a test scope for RSD sites. Russels' site does have some indexed images from the older sites but nothing new after the RSD builds. So it looks like with the small sample to test from that Twinstream is correct.

So what does this mean?
If you have a business or a site where images are important none of those images will be indexed for search using just RSD. I'll post something in the next few days on the consequences of that.

Yep, you are right. Only the opengraph defined images (intended for FB etc) appear to be indexed. The others are not.
This would be a real deal-breaker for some sites!

So do you think there could be an easy fix for this? Is there a specific reason they need to use the srcset tag?
