You describe a website very similar to the one I built using RSD 1.5. I do use the scrolling page. That can be changed to “next page” links . With a responsive website you will have scrolling on the smaller screens. Keep in mind that Google uses the small screen content as return for a search result.

I had no experience with RSD when I started building the website. After trying several options with the left menu bar, I eventually got this method to work okayish. Not saying it is the right method. It requires exact same images and adjustments to containers depending on the length of the wording and adjustments at breakpoints. The Flexbox layout was introduced to RSD after I began this project.

I used 3 rows. The middle row has 2 columns. The left for the menu which I repeat with intervals so it makes it easier to navigate. The right column uses subgrid colums with containers. The 3 row pictures collapse into 2 row pictures for tablet and single pictures on the small screen. Each item links to a more detailed descriptions and images page.

This website is finicky to maintain but works for what we need with constant new content being added.

I would highly recommend going with a theme that is easy to maintain especially at the beginning stages of learning RSD.

I have knocked up a site, I have to say though
1/ it's not polished, although things work
2/ It's not exactly like your schematic, nor like the Theme, I decided to sort of compromise with a more modern look, but retain some old fashioned feel too.
3/ The reason I did the home page like it is, because one needs to let visitors gain some trust in you and what you are doing (so a little bit about you,) they need to quickly see what the benefit is for them, many little things that make the home page stand out.

So there is a little bit of scrolling down past the fold, with links to other pages so it isn't really a single page site.

It is only an idea, don't worry if you don't like it, or are even more intimidated by the prospect, also you might want run with what Inger is doing with the Coffee Cup theme.

I would probably say that it will be 6 or seven video tutorials to follow along with all would be about 55 mins long.

Anyway good luck with everything whatever you decide. Have fun RSD is the best and once you get to know it some incredible work can be done with it.

Hi, sorry for being late to the party. For anyone knowing the Scottish poet Robert Burns: 'The best-laid schemes o' mice an' men'...

The reason is, that we had about 65-70 cm of snow yesterday and last night. At about 01am the electricity went, and it was still gone when I got up this morning. With no electricity I also have no internet, no water, no phone (but luckily wood heating). So I fed the cat for a couple of days, grabbed my laptop, cleared away a 'ton' of snow in front of the garage door, and then I fled. My house is in the country-side, but I also have a flat in the next town, about 2 hours away, so this is where I am now.

I find Wayan's idea very good. His mockup is certainly more than what I had in mind. My intention was to create a more or less 'naked' skeleton of a site, whith suggestions about what should go where. I would have made the navigation vertical down the left side for wide screens, but also collapsible for small screens, like Wayan did it.

Thanks for those comments, I was also without electricity most of yesterday (happens quite a lot here in deepest Indonesia), I am always prepared though as I have 4 spare batteries for the laptops, which affords me quite a time of operating.
I kept away from the side column menu as it sort of is redundant nowadays (except for specialist navigation of some pages.
The top navigation is fixed to the top, so it stays put for scrolling & allows for users to go to other pages wherever they are,, even on mobile devices.

Okay, some thoughts from me:
- since you don't know me, you would not know that I am a nature photographer, so, much of what I do is take photos that I like and will try to sell those to folks who like what they see.
- I was sort of liking the idea of a background color/texture with the content contained in a box, much like Bright Horizons has it, so that the text doesn't go all the way to the edge of the monitor. I guess I like a bit of a margin. I do want it to go most of the way to the edge, but not fully. I also want all of it to scale when the page is zoomed larger or smaller. That is to say, I want the logo and images to scale with the page scaling. I hope that makes sense?
- I like the idea of the collapsible menu for the phones and then in a row, top side when on the larger devices
- I would like the footer to be sizeable, so I could make it taller/shorter as desired
- my logo isn't large enough to take the entire width of a page, so, it would be left justified
- the idea on the first page was to make it look like a gallery wall, so I would have "teaser" photos with links. The linked pages could have a grid of photos that when clicked on would show larger, OR, even when clicked, a slideshow of the images on the page. Does that sound doable?

Am I asking for far too much for this sort of framework? I so greatly appreciate you helping, I certainly don't wish to take advantage of your generosity.

Thanks for sharing your site with me/us. It helps me to understand how different layouts work.

I think the one thing that concerns me in using the RSD, is know just where and how to make my updates. In days past, I would make sure to comment on my code to show me where to modify colors, where to put images etc. So, if I had to make a change, it was easy enough to copy a section, paste it and edit it. Or, conversely, to remove a section. With the CSS driving the sites now, it seems so much more complicated! Maybe I just need to get used to it?
