when I publish it the picture just shows up as text 'place holder img'

Hi Logan, if you look in the options in design - you can change from placeholder pic to resource - u have to add files to resources - or else u can upload the photo then give it a url..

That usually happens when the placeholder is changed / picture is added on a breakpoint. If you check out the link Steve posted (http://www.coffeecup.com/help/articles/ … tutorials/) you'll see that a good workflow for startes can be to complete the content / design without breakpoints and adjust the design for the width range.
