Fonts not exporting?

Hi folks,

Just come back to some site design work after a while out of IT. On RSD 2.5 (build 2425).

RSD has a few fonts built in plus the "google fonts" which I cannot use (for security reasons google is well and truly banned from my normal network).

I have a font I've got both installed in Windows (7 - also for security/privacy reasons) and placed into the resources/fonts folder, but RSD is not showing the font in the listing nor is it exporting chosen fonts.

I'd like to be able to use my choice of fonts as well as have them exported.

It has been too long and I cannot recall how to do this. Anyone able to help?

Thanks,
David

You might find a solution at fontsquirrel.com.

I'm not quite clear about your reasoning for using Windows 7 for security reasons? Windows 7 is no longer supported by Microsoft (since January last year), which means, among other things, that it will not be updated with security patches.

Thanks - but how does that get them visible to RSD?

Win10 exports a considerable amount of data to MS and other places. Win 7 does not.

It also sits behind a couple of decent firewalls in a oft-copied VM under Linux, and does NOT have internet access :)

In the 'old days' we used to create so-called 'webfontkits'. to be able to use the fonts we wanted on websites. I haven't done this for quite some time, maybe there is another way of embedding fonts now. If there is, I hope someone else will chime in here.

Let it also be said that if you are still using the old RSD2.5, you are missing out on a good many fonts that have been added. The program is now called just Site Designer (SD) and has reached version 5.

Back in the 'bad old days' before V2.5, the fonts were placed into the "fonts" directory in site tree, and RSD automatically exported them for you. Any font you selected during the design phase (installed on your system) was automatically exported into this folder with the rest of the site, and was therefore available when customers came along even if the font wasn't on their system

It seems it's no longer automatic, and I really would like to know how it is done. I cannot see how to do this in RSD, but perhaps have been away from IT too long (is it possible to be away from computers for "too long"??? I think it wasn't nearly long enough! :) ) and am missing something rather obvious.

I cannot justify the cost of SD at present. Purchasing RSD (with the promise of lifetime upgrades!) was bad enough when I did that, and hard to justify though I did manage to.

Hi David,

I've had to use a font that isn't in the SD program by using @font-face and it seems to work ok. The chosen font may not be compatible with every browser however. Do a google search and you find lots of info on @font-face and I know that it has been discussed in the forums here also.

Hope that helps.
