It shows in edge for me but not in Chrome.

Nevermind, I was looking at the address bar in Chrome instead of the tab. Long day.

I use the new & old links when I do the favicon and it works well, plus the iOS phone icon. You can see those here in this post:

You attach those images in your root (main directory), where you have your image folders in RSD. You should be able to see the favicon when do a preview from your browser.
