To me, a dark button that becomes light when selected, means it is selected. The Control panes show light when not selected and dark when selected. This is throwing me off especially when the video guide for beginners, when you look at her control panes, goto layout Block... hers is dark then light when selected. How do we modify this behaviour?

I think you need to be a tad more specific. Where do you find those confusing colour changes?

Go to the Styles Layout tab and select flex instead of block that is the buttons he is referring to

I am not sure that this is controlled by a setting we can alter, and to be honest something I haven't noticed before, probably because it isn't a problem for me. maybe would be a better post in the suggestions thread, but don't hold your breath whilst waiting
