Is it correct that by converting to Site Designer V3 the Subgrid row/column are all converted to Container?

It appears so. I would open a support request.
Its odd because importing a subgrid show the columns when previewing in the browser, but they are not in the element tree.

I mispoke as I was testing with a a old Coffegrinder template. For Foundation it seems to transfer ok and shows in the element tree correctly. My apologies. (Need more coffee...its Monday)

Yup Rows and cols are gone, long live the layout container!
The old structure is maintained with specific layout classes. The idea is to move those section by section and use flexbox or css grid to create a future proof layout. This article explains this:

Not really, just update. And the app should teach you, visually tweak a CSS property and see the effect on canvas
