thanks for that, however I was trying to stay away from java because isn't it not compatible with most smart phones.

Brandon, are you confusing Javascript with Java?
Javascript runs just fine on phones/pads. It would be hard to find a modern site that doesn't use it. You don't need to worry about it unless you have so many scripts running it slows down the load time. :P
