In RSD - adding an email button / link. How do I do this. I did see reference to HREF then an address to add and tried that. How do you test it and how do you see the actual html code. On click should bring up "customers" email

If I have understood correctly what is wanted, the following may help.

I put an email link on a button-link element by putting mailto:xxx@xxxxxx (where xxx@xxxxxx is my email address) instead of the # in the href box.

I test by clicking on the 'Preview on...' icon in RSD. That brings up the web page in my browser, where clicking on the button opens my email program ready to send a message to the email address that had been put in the href box as above.

In Firefox, as in several other browsers, I can see the actual code by pressing Ctrl+u on the keyboard.

Wow! That was quick and very helpful. Seems so easy. I did have outlook open and it came up with "cant open two instances of out look" So I closed Outlook and it worked. Opened Outlook again and tried and again and worked - straight to an email addressed correctly.Thank you. I assume to open a website will e just as easy.

Opening a website with a button-link is indeed just as easy.

In the href box one replaces the # with the full address of the website, including the http:// or https:// at the start. For example, to link to this website one would enter (without the inverted commas) "http://www.coffeecup.com/".

Thank you. Nice and easy and well explained. I need to add a small contact pane where a customer can enter his email and a few lines of comments. Once I can do this, it seems RSD is fine for me to purchase, and can cover my needs. Going Responsive is my main reason. My web is print@printplus.co.za if you would like to see what I have to rewrite. Done in Dream W. Started about 2000 and just added to it.

I would refer to the paragraph starting with "The interaction elements ..." about three quarter down the page at http://www.coffeecup.com/help/articles/ … elements/.

I am a novice user, but had a similar task to yours of converting my fixed layout website to responsive layout. Since even I could get it to work using RSD, I'm sure you'll have no great difficulty.

***Just found the answer to my question (the answer is YES) by following the tips/tricks posted in response to someone else who had the same question, at about the same time. Sorry for the noise. ***

Would a button link element be readable by web crawlers looking for valid email addresses?

I fear the answer is 'Yes'.

Googling 'prevent email address harvesting' (without the inverted commas) is enlightening. I suspect the method one uses will depend on whether one is wanting to be contacted, or just making contact possible.

Since I just want to make it possible but not to encourage it, I have used a 'put these bits together and put this title' method. This method for the site been unchanged for more than 10 years and seems to have been successful in preventing harvesting.

http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/6-precauti … -spammers/ suggests that those wanting to encourage contact may be wise to use a contact form such as can be done with Web Form Builder.

Thanks. Given that my web site is to help facilitate the sale of my art, I am OK with being contacted :). With my existing site, I use an image of the email address, which seems to be working OK -- at least OK enough to keep the spammers out. I don't know if it encourages or discourages email contact from legits.

Doesn't work for me on 3 different browsers: IE,Chrome, nor FireFox.

In the Button Link Href field, I enter mailto:name@gmail.com

IE brings up a new browser page, but not email; the other two simply ignore it. My only guess is that I don't use local email clients such as Outlook--only Gmail and Yahoo.

Anyone run into this before?
