How to edit text in checkoutpps.php

Trying out the cart designer and creator software but, the cart checkout process is very redundant.

View cart has the paypal button and is editable.
1- Okay, why can't that just lead to paypal?
Instead it leads to checkoutpps.php.
checkoutpps.php has the message:
"Proceed to secure credit card checkout with PayPal
Thank you for shopping with us!
We will now transfer you to the secure payment gateway where you can enter your credit card data."
Which I do not want.
I got rid of that for a reason in cart.php
2- Why cant I edit that? Don't see a solution in designer or creator.
Ideally, when view cart is selected, I want the paypal button (or whatever pay now graphic) click to lead to paypal, not to yet another cart page .

I typically use serverside cartware and MANY POTENTIAL IMPULSE BUYERS (especially older folks like me) bail out with all the talk of PayPal and they email me with their concerns instead of just proceeding. (I don't want a PayPal account, I just want to use my credit /debit card, what is PayPal and so on. Even with the cc icons present!) Can't tell you how many sales I have lost over the years due to that. I prefer just show a generic checkout button which leads to the paypal site. Far fewer folks get get confused or concerned when I use this method.

3- The print page text also cannot be removed in cart areas. The image can but, a and a:hover must be made to bg color to hide! (Which is a bad practice from an seo perspective.) Am I missing something?

Are these issues possibly theme based? (fresco)

I have been only dabbling with the cart software for ~an hour and yes, I could have a store up in an hour if I wanted to settle with these issues but, not happening.

I just cannot use the software if I don't have COMPLETE control of each pages content / layout.
Trying to avoid writing a Perl version in my CC HTMLeditor (which I bought well over a decade ago and is GREAT for Perl.)

Thanks for any assistance.

After owning, promoting and the using the Coffee Cup Editor faithfully and daily for well over a decade, and other products here, I am now being charged for an upgrade?
I will never pay for an upgrade when I was told (and the ad copy blasted) that I would never have to pay again for updates.

When there was issues with the software, I hung in there while using another editor until it was fixed.
Why? Because I had hundreds of custom Perl snippets, servers, browsers, the toolbar, layout / highlighting and other time savers already configged in CC for my daily routine.
Now, I am forced to the last free upgraded version which, I am now forced to phase out of my toolbox.
From a standpoint of even basic principles here, major fail.

I was promised free lifetime upgrades from day one, PERIOD. GOODBYE.

CC creates applications for users that don't want to mess with coding. Your complaining about using an application in a unintended way. There's always work arounds for some of the types of things you would like to see happen but remember each time you publish your cart it will be overwritten. Your could alter a theme from outside the app and import that into your shop but then your going outside the scope of most users and you would be on your own to make it work correctly. CC's shopping cart works great write out of the can and that's what must users want. If you need special features you can make suggestions in the suggestion forum.:)
I can't hear what I'm looking at.
It's easy to overlook something you're not looking for.

Not complaining. Looking for support, not ad copy.
Even from a novice perspective, that page SHOULD be editable just like ALL THE REST.
Am I correct or not?
I mentioned nothing about ability for coding so, really confused there.
The statement:
" creates applications for users that don't want to mess with coding. Your complaining about using an application in a unintended way."
is completely off base.
Unintended way how? Editing the checkout page via the software like all the other pages? Hmmm, confused.

So, I will rephrase the questions one at a time:
How do I edit the content on the last checkout page like I do on the cart page and all the other pages?

That you cannot do within the interface at this time. Those kind of tweaks would need to be made outside of the software by adjusting the scripts.

I think the main gist here is that you don't. If you want to edit it yourself outside of the program that is up to you, but it's not supported. As Eric already said, the program is aimed more for the user that is not a coder or may not have a lot of experience or knowledge to setup some of the more code involved and intricate store setups that are usually included with cPanels and such. It's geared more for the user that wants to just put up a simple shop (and sometimes not so simple too) and be done with it. Your ability for coding wasn't what he was getting at, it was basic user ability that the software is geared for.

I have to say you're the first person that I've seen even ask for that feature to edit the last view cart page. It's most likely setup the way it is in order to be able to pass all the information needed from the cart to PayPal (or whatever payment gateway people decide to use). Since there are no databases involved nor login systems setup with it, I'm sure it needs to have specific ways to get everything to the right place the right way. Granted, I could be wrong here and that page may have absolutely nothing to do with it, but.... never know.

Either way, it's really not that big of a deal at all, and a lot of users are using this software without losing sales due to the PayPal thing. If you put good information on your View Cart Page (use the right highlighting and bolding and whatever needed) to let your users know that they do not need to sign up for PayPal they can choose to do the "don't have a paypal account" route, then you're fine. No one else has complained/had issues with that setup so far in all these years.

Mind you, if you're set on it then first, go to the suggestions thread and suggest it so the team knows it's something you want to see added. Or edit the files yourself, but do realize that it's not supported nor do you get a whole lot of help with it as most people won't know the answers you need for it.

It really isn't as big of a deal breaker as you think it is, PayPal is extremely well known by a lot of online shoppers. Most people that shop online know something about it, and if you give enough information about it on your site people will be fine with it. Up to you of course, but not as big of a deal as you think.

In the end, realize that the software is not meant for super users, it's meant for those needing to get a shop up that don't have a lot of experience, time, knowledge, etc. to do it with the more expensive software that is usually so difficult to figure out they can't do it.

As Eric says, it works right out of the box, may not have all the bells and whistles you need right now, but it does what it's intended to do.

Darn. I had designer and creator in my cart here too. Would have been a great solution.
Not being able to edit:
"Proceed to secure credit card checkout with PayPal
Thank you for shopping with us!
We will now transfer you to the secure payment gateway where you can enter your credit card data."
is the main kicker outside of the redundancy there.

Oh well, been an owner of CCHTMLeditor and a couple others here since year one of initial release and I can't live without the editor. Use it AT LEAST 10/7/360. Has evolved into an in-disposable tool for me over editing in notepad because I can have my 100 or so tabbed scripts open, it's code non invasive, crashes rarely and I get free updates. Love it and have turned many of my students on to it.

As far as the cart wysiwyg software, when the checkout process offers more control (or even just ability to get edit that darn text) is tweaked, I am all in. I'll subscribe to this thread and await with bells on.

Thanks for the straight forward answer Scott.

You can edit that line of text and have it be permanent. Just need to find it.

I personally desire a code free solution as my clients and or students will be adding products and syncing.
Everyone here does agree it is quite strange that you can edit everything but, those two pages.
Everyone is also in agreement to the double page checkout process. (Check out with paypal (cart.php) leads you to proceed to checkout checkoutpps.php.)
Your site here even offers an "either or".

Everyone trying the software here just wants check out with paypal button to actually go to paypal, not going to yet another page with ugly "Return to the Shop" and "Proceed to Checkout" buttons. Seems quite odd that it does not function that way.
Also, the inability to remove/change the print this page text which leans more towards the whole basic editing restriction in cart pages.

Manually editing the checkoutpps.php or check out process functions, although quite simple, will be overwritten (assumption) upon syncing therefore nullifying the reason we want to use the software. (may sell some directftp's though ;) )
Upon upgrade of the software, changes will be lost too. (assumption)
If loss of mods on sync/upgrade is not the case, I personally can use the software fine for a few applications but, my clients, students don't want anything to do with modding code. They, (and I) just want more control of the checkout pages text / process / layout.

My advice to just change the paypal button graphic in cart.php from "Checkout with paypal" to "Go to Checkout" is a perfect solution for some of the redundancy but, my advice was received with mixed reviews. Still get those generic buttons though and un-editable text layout. I won't share what was said here in this venue..

I am sure all mentioned formatting restrictions are umm "simple" (simple don't make easy) mods to the software and although supposedly no-one has ever asked, I have a room full of people (a good cross section too) who pointed it out to me so, perhaps no-one just signed up to the forum to ask and they just wanted a quick cart solution. No-one here was going to join the forum and ask (they ALL just started looking for different software.) so, the ball bounced into my court because I see potential here.

Since there are sales lost just in this room of 23 bright individuals due to these "issues", it would be ridiculous to think this is not an issue. As a developer, I must listen to the client and make changes or they move on. I have come to realize over the years that; if one person asks, many more did not. Especially in this instant gratification era.

I appreciate all the info and quick responses here and hope the developers consider what I have relayed.
I did notice there was a feature request section but, I believe these are core inadequacies or oversights and not features.
Perhaps someone will point this thread out to the developers.

Thanks again and have a GREAT PRODUCTIVE day! (UNTIL FOOTBALL COMES ON TONIGHT! :D:D:D:D:lol:)

You do realize that you can change that PayPal image right? Yes it would be manual, but it wouldn't be hard. Create a new button, make it the same size and name it the same name and replace the one that's there. Done.

You can also change it in a theme file (open the theme files to edit them manually by changing the extension to .zip and extract the files) once you get the theme file(s) changed that you want, reinsert them into the .zip file and then rename the file again to the theme extension (can't recall it off hand). Keep in mind not to alter actual code stuff, just edit the images, replace them etc. so it doesn't mess up the system of how the themes work and so on.

There are ways around a lot of things that way, and this would also keep that theme ready for the next venture. Doing it this way also means no overwrites done on updating the shop or even the theme if you use the same theme file when you edit it.

Be sure to make a copy of the original theme so you can always put a file or image back where it was. :)

Hi Zentode as a thought why not create another stored copy of checkoutpps.php. that does a redirect to the PayPal checkout and replace the original whenever you want. Sometimes you have to go with the flow.
