How to Change Landing or Index Page?

After much struggle, I have finally come up with a page that is very close to what I want, except for the landing page. SCC seems to make the "Shop Home" page the default landing page. It also happens to be the one that has a drop down menu for the two allowable static pages. The optional "Home" page does not have a provision for those static pages.

My question is how to change the landing page from Shop Home to Home. Here is my website. http://whitehatbooks.com/shop/

You will land on "More Information" relabeled from "Shop Home." Could I simply go to the server and rename the index and home files (basically swap them) so that first time visitors land on the White Hat Books page?

James, Take a look at the options under "Your Shop" "Pages" tab. There's several check box's that effect what shows on you home page and how it looks. You can always hand code the needed html to customize the page.:)
I can't hear what I'm looking at.
It's easy to overlook something you're not looking for.

Is this in a test folder on your server?

Have you looked at what you see when you visit www.whitehatbooks.com and then follow the links?

It appears as though you've published 2 versions of your site. 1 in VSD, and the other SCC. One appears merged with VSD. :(

You can rename any of the pages to Home, etc, just as you have renamed already.

Landing page really is just a term for a page someone lands on - there is no real definitive landing page rule I guess. Bit confused as to what you want to do. You can have all static pages (5 pages I think from memory) all in the same dropdown, and usually how it appears. :)

Usually they sit on the first Main page - what you've called White Hat Books. Not sure how you got the dropdown over on the More info tab.

Bren, you are right about two versions. At first I was trying to embed the SCC site in an iframe on the VSD site. It didn't work. Now I have deleted the iframe in the VSD version and made a link to the SCC site instead. Sorry for the confusion.

When someone goes to whitehatbooks.com/shop (or is sent there from another link), they "land" on the "more information" page because SCC has designated that page as the index page. I got the dropdown menu by adding two static pages as allowed by the software. Those pages by default go to the "shop home" page which I have relabeled as "more information."

Back to the point. I want to find a way of designating the "home" page in SCC as the index page. That way people will land there instead of where they land now. I want them to land on the "white hat books" page (so renamed from "home" in SCC) (whitehatbooks.com/home.php).

Rolly, I cannot find a way to do it in the pages tab. I wonder if I could just go directly to the server and rename index.php to home.php and vice versa.

I don't think changing the name will work because the site has all the links built into by the software.:) You could try some redirects. I found this site that has some examples. Maybe Tom will drop by and offer a suggestion.:)

Can't you change the name of the link and data and make that your home page? I believe you have done something to cause this. I don't think CC would make a template with the more information page as the default index (home) page. That just doesn't make sense.

Tomalicious, you are right. I did change something but it was only the labels. In SCD-Pro there are four menu items in a theme: shop home, view cart, categories, and home. Once the theme is exported, the "shop home" item becomes the default index page which means that anybody going to a site like "www.anydomain.com/shop" will land on that page. You can rename it in SCC but it will still act as the index page regardless of what you name it. The "shop home" page is also the one to which the drop down menu for the two "static pages" is attached. It does not matter what name/label you give the "shop home" page, it is still the index page.

I want the page with the drop down menu for the static pages to not be the index page. Instead, I would like to have the page that SCD-Pro calls "home" actually show up as the index.php once the theme is imported into SCC.

I know this is confusing. If you go to whitehatbooks.com/shop you will land on the "more info" page, the one with the two static pages in the drop down menu on the right side of the menu bar. I want people who go to the website to land on the "white hat books" page, the one represented by the tab on the left side of the menu bar (and the one with no drop down menu).

Anyway, thanks for looking. This just may be one of those inherent limits in the CC software that cannot be changed in the current configuration.

I do believe this is something you've changed James. :)

It's not the usual structure of the SCC templates.

The first link usually holds all the static dropdown pages (5 pages), and then Rolly explained to me how to get an additional page in the Nav Bar.

It appears as though maybe you've done the additional nav bar page, and the pages in the dropdown are now linked to that somehow.

Are you planning on keeping a different Home Page? Usually the Home page of SCC is www.yourdomain.com/public.php - not shop. Shop usually comes into play when someone has an additional Home Page (and or additional pages with that) published to index, and then they publish their shop to a shop folder.

I hope I'm not confusing you, but I've not seen anyone with the structure you have there. :D

Sorry, typo up there - meant it's usually yourdomain.index.php - where you publish to your public folder. Sorry! :)

James,
What do you have checked for (Homepage) Optional under "Your Shop" then "Pages" tab?
