I know there will be people that disagree with me on this, but I personally have never installed a firewall, anti-virus or security program on my system. They always cause more problems then they are worth. I only use FireFox for my surfing and gmail for e-mail. The majority of all users who have uploading problems always has something to do with one of those security programs installed. Then people will get so upset at us when in fact it is the security program actually causing the problem.

My 3 cents anyways... ;)

My kind of guy Scott. I too have never been big on activating all that cr@p. I've only gotten hit with 3 virus' in the last 25 years, the latest of which, I know EXACTLY where it came from. I HAVE started backing up lately, even going with an off-site service that is encrypted (128 bit) stored in to underground bunkers, dual-redundency power/fiber optics connection/etc...
I find WINDOWS OS to be the biggest VIRUS of all times, with the firewalls, antivirus', and such to be close second.

EDIT:
I did notice that you are the BIG spender this week (your 3 cents ?) I guess the roll-out of SCD and SCD PRO this week did really well :P

Well wow I wish I had your computers and whatever good habits you have to go with them lol. I don't visit weird sites, porn sites or anything out of the ordinary, yet I can say I've had to literally reformat my computer at least a half dozen times over the past 4 years due to viruses or trojans or spyware of some sort or another that I couldn't get off, and even with the help of professional techs online couldn't get rid of lol. I hate having to do that, so I tend to try to find something to stop it from happening.

I must say though that with all my babble about it I was using security software during every one of them infections and they still got through so... maybe there is merit to what you say and I'll get it anyways even if I'm protected LOL. But with my track record I'd rather be safe than sorry. I've been able to track down only 3 of those things as to where they came from so....

I don't open email attachments, click links directly even if the email looks valid, or anything like that anymore just to be sure. I use Wikmail Email Client software which has a wonderful Source Code viewer built into it so I can see the code of the email and go to the links that way if it's something I really want to see lol. Whatever works I guess lol.

Thanks everybody, I decided to stop using CA, it was a paid version, but I noticed over the past couple of updates it became harder to setup and it caused me problems. I am trying something called AVG and as far as CC everything is back to working fine.

Scott, just wanted to say you all do a fantastic job there putting out great software!!

Thanks!!!

Glad to hear it's all doing good now, and don't sweat it I have to turn on and off a particular part of my firewall for every installation while I wait for them to update it to fix an installation error problem that happens with every program I install lol. Thank god it's basically a toggle setting on the security software that I can turn off for like 15 minutes and it turns right back on for me after that lol that way I don't forget! *bobs her dyed blonde head* LOL

Have something to add? We’d love to hear it!
