Taxes and canceled order webpage -...

I have over 400 zip codes in the state of Arkansas that by law I charge taxes for. In my other website I have 4 states which totals over 1200 zip codes.

I can not find any changes in the way the pro verison handles taxes from the basic version. I tried to use paypal to add the taxes being I can setup a zip code / tax rate data base that uses the customers zip code.

However, SCCP and PayPal don't seem to play well together and paypal will not add the taxes.

Does anyone have a work around for this?

Problem 2 and 3, When PayPal returns the customer back to the website from a canceled order I get a file not found error. And the same problem after the purchase.

Problem 4, I'm guessing this is caused by problem 3. After I pay for the item in my test using paypal and it sends me back to page not found the item is still in my shopping cart like it was never sold. If I remove it form the cart it goes back in inventory ready to sell again. The help file shows after the payment paypal should return the customer to http: // www. arkansas-solar. com/ solar-store-pro/ checkoutpps.php
But I noticed it is putting an HTTPS not HTTP? So page not found

And the real kicker is PayPal charges me .30 cents every time I test it.

This is about to drive me crazy

The Pro version and the Basic version have the exact same tax module. Unfortunately if you have 1200+ zip codes to add, that will require a bit of data entry for you. Sorry... ;(

As to the other 2 issues, it looks like a problem with PHP and your IIS Server. I tried the same thing on a Linux server and it works just fine. I will log that with our programmers right now but I probably wont have an answer until Monday at the latest. I will contact you directly as soon as I have some information.

Scott,

Maybe in a future version of Pro you could implement an import function for tax rates like you have with the import for the shopping cart products.

I know my state provides a download several times a year of all of the updated tax rates for all counties and cities within the state. I can get it in various formats, one being and excel file which would be really easy to edit and save as a .csv and import into a program like this.

Just a thought,
Dean

I will definitely log that suggestion.

Hi Scott,

This tax rate problem is unacceptable.

For my part, You don't need to bother with the above issues if the tax issue is not going to be addressed.

It maybe a feature we look into someday, but it won't be something added anytime soon.

So do you want me to look into the other issues or not? I am sure we can correct those problems.

Scott,

Thank you for all your help but I just can't use the software if it will not do the taxes correctly. If this program would do the taxes correctly it would be worth 500 dollars or more. I pay almost that much in transaction fees per month to yahoo plus a monthly hosting fee.

What I don't understand is how anyone in the USA can use the software because it is the law in all states that you collect taxes for the state you do business in. I can understand how it is not a problem to someone that only has 500 dollars per year sales but I have a half a million in sales per year on just one of my websites.

Can anyone in the USA tell me how they handle this tax problem without adding it into the price?

Please don't worry with any other problems till the tax problem is addressed. This is the deal breaker.

It does do the taxes correctly. That is not the problem here. You just would like it to be a bit easier to import a tax file to automate the setup process. That is just not a feature we have yet, but it could possibly be added in the future.

I did not find any where for a customer to put in their zip code so the shopping cart can search the tax rate database that I am willing to enter one at a time.

I really don't think a customer is willing to search through 400 to 1200 zip codes to find theirs.. I know I would drop my cart and go buy somewhere esle.

I see what you mean now. I am not sure if a feature like that will be added anytime soon either. Most people just average out the taxes for the entire state instead of being so percise. That would at least give you a work around until we figure out how we may address such a situation.
