Shipping not working correctly - Post...

I've tried to find this particular issue on the forums but did not find it, hopefully I am not double posting.

I just purchased and am setting up SCCP 3.9 but am having difficulty with the shipping.

I prefer to use weight based method, but for some reason the shipping never gets added to the final cost. Right now, as a test, I have a single weight range set up: 0-3oz (mailing DVDs) with a cost of 1.60 and created an item with a weight of 2 oz. When I add to cart, instead of adding 1.60 to the cart, it stays at 0. I have tried various combinations of ranges and numbers, I can't get weight based to add anything to shipping no matter what I do. I also do have the default weight unit to oz.

So I gave up on that method and tried the manual way. I can't get it work right either.

I set the default shipping to 0 and set up 2 shipping options (I'm still unclear on how this is set up as well, default shipping and shipping options). My 2 options are PICKUP - 0, and STANDARD SHIPPING, 1.60 per item. This works decently, except I have a few items that need free shipping. So I went to those items, unchecked apply default and gave it a shipping price of 0. However, those free ship items still get 1.60 added to them??

Am I missing something?
thanks

Did you ever get it figured out? I am having the same problem. I am going by weight based, and initially it worked. But then I added a free ship item, and now nothing is calculating. I get zero amount for shipping even after I changed the free ship to a shipping fee
Thanks,
Sandy

Yes I did.

How did you add the free ship item?

This is how I'm set up now.

Weight based with 2 methods. 1) PICKUP: which has one weight range set to 0. 2) STANDARD SHIPPING: which has all the weight ranges and prices to go with it.

Items that are always free shipping have a weight of 0.

When the user adds items to cart and uses PICKUP, there is never any shipping charges because all of the weight ranges in PICKUP are 0. When the user selects STANDARD SHIPPING the cart adds shipping costs to those items with weights.

How does your set up compare to this?

HTH. let me know if you have any other questions. I'll try to be of some help.

I don't offer pick up. That's the only difference. All my stuff is shipped USPS. I thought I could over-ride the default by hand entering in a .00 (zero) on the page options for the stuff that I could ship for free. You have to un-check the default. I'm attaching a shot to see what I mean.
I read another forum comment about setting an extremely high range in shipping weight for specific products and then add in zero in the shipping cost. You might want to try that. Like, for your free, or pick up items, put the weight at whatever range you have set for zero.
I have only been working with this for about a week now. I like it. Just trying to figure it out, and I enjoy this forum, especially when somebody responds.
Thanks, and keep in touch.
Sandy

Well, it's still not calculating shipping, but it does calculate taxes.
Here's my unfinished shop if you want to see: http://rusticwoodworking.com/shop/index.php
I'll have to keep working at it. I had it working one time, and I don't kow what I did, or what setting I changed, to make it not work.

I just tried your shop and it was adding the shipping in.

9" Basswood $6.49 S/H $7.65 Total $14.14

I did not bring it all the way through PayPal because I have no use for a 9" piece of Basswood.
Sometimes all we need is a different perspective.

Just me again.

I just noticed that the shipping will calculate just fine so long as I don't choose MN, which is the state that I have to charge sales taxes for.

I just tried Black Ash 8" and seemed to work fine.

To check further, I tried to proceed through the PP checkout, and that page asked me for my zip code to calculate shipping, and even that resulted in a zero shipping fee. I have all the state sales tax set up on my PP account to.

Very interesting. Anybody living in any state other than MN, which is the only state I have the 6.875% state tax entered, gets a shipping amount. If you enter a MN zip code I guess it's free shipping, but you pay state sales tax. I'm starting to think that the government is involved in this somehow.......:(
