redirects - Post ID 156552
Just curious about how to fix a problem I see with many of the users using coffee cup software. I am getting this on many of my searches for products via yahoo mostly. "You have been redirected to this page because the product that you were looking for was not found". Is there a way to delete these from yahoo. I found them in my sitemap and got rid of them but yahoo still has them on their search engines. When I did a search for the redirect quote I noticed it showed up on other coffee cup users as well. It seems to have showedup after I upgraded to the pro version if this helps.
Thanks for any help!

Yahoo has an article here at http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/directory/remove/ with instructions. I am sure this will not happen over night.
What you can also do is redirect these pages with htaccess and take any old page that has been removed and automatically direct it to a page of your choosing.

I just called in about this and found this response from before. The site was just cached and again it is still a problem. Here is an example of what I see in Yahoo.
www.cassandrastrings.com/onlineshop/?vi … hp?groupid
I have probably 50 to 100 of these out there and this is a concern. I do notice that the correct site has a different ending. productid vs groupid.
www.cassandrastrings.com/onlineshop/vie … ?productid
What am I doing wrong here? How do I get rid of the bad ones?
Thanks so much for trying to help!

There is no setting in the software to prevent how a search engine indexes you. Even a robots.txt file is not 100% perfect. Yahoo does have a way for you to remove a listing however. Checkout http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/directory/remove/

Scott,
What is causing these redirects is my question? There are way too many URLs for me to delete in Yahoo's link you gave me. They only allow 200. I am already up to 150 and still have 10 more pages to go. Am I deleting product and they are coming from this or was this from a previous version of the shopping cart? I had the regular before. Did I not delete the version from my server correctly? I use subcategories do I need regular categories as well? This is not only in Yahoo as I thought but in all servers.
Thanks,

There really is no way to know with any certainty why the search engines pick up URL's like that.
