According to help somewhere, you can set up shipping as downloadable or shipped by setting up weight based shipping, but I can't get that to work at all.

My dilemma is this: I have some software, which is downloadable and can be shipped on a CD-rom, and some that can only be shipped on a CD-rom (due to size and value and what not).

I thought, maybe I can just set it up so that I have 2 default shipping options to choose from for the downloadable stuff i.e. Download and CD-rom, so I set those up under Shipping and checked Apply Default under Optional Charges on those products.

On the rest I set up a shipping individually under Optional Charges and didn't check Apply Default, but I still get the Download and CD-rom Shipping Methods to choose from.

Shouldn't Shipping Method not be applied, when you don't check Aply Default under Optional Charges, I wonder?

How do I get around this?

Ideally, the Download and CD-rom should be options per product, and I hope you beans include that in the real downloadable products version of Shopping Cart Creator PRO.

A lot of software vendors give options of also supplying their products on CD for an additional cost. Adding that as an option for the product it applies to would cure one of your problems (hopefully). The one that is only available as a CD is a straightforward shipping, with no download options available.

As it stands in its current format, the only way Cart Creator can handle 'free shipping' (download) is by assigning a very low (or high) weight to the product and having a weight band in your shipping that has a zero charge applied to it.

Option one download only..... Option two send CD ..... (add postage cost using the additional price option), for those items that offer both options.

You currently have to define a shipping option, so you could add things like, national shipping and international shipping to your dropdown on the cart page. Giving your download items a zero price related weight will not bring up an additional charge on the cart page, whereas you could still charge a small premium for international orders..

Well that sort of works. Now I need find out, if I can place the Add to Cart thing at the top of the decription instead of at the bottom.

You're welcome. Sometimes it is a question of adapting the cart to suit your needs.

Moving the add to cart button and quantity box to the top of your item description is most likely possible if you have some knowledge of php. In other carts it is a question of putting the section of code prior to the item description output. Try it out on a test shop by all means and see what you can do with it, but obviously don't put the modified code onto a LIVE shop until you are certain the changes work faultlessly.
