I am also having some of the same problems with uploading a CSV file, if I change any value in any field in the CSV file that I have exported from SCCP then it starts throwing errors at me. When i export and try to import again without changing anything I get an even more wonderful error - "The CSV file has a row that is trying to move a subcategory ("T-5 Fluorescent Tubes") into the Parent Category field"

Why on earth would a subcategory field be getting moved to the parent category when there is already a value in the parent category field for that subcategory?

I've spent hours trying to import products into SCCP to no avail. I downloaded the sample.csv file, put two lines of products that are in the same order, result errors. another time it does not recognize some of the fields (images 0-4), took images off it still doesn't recognize other fields and this is in a sample csv file. .Put two lines of products in another csv file with the fields as recommended I get field size errors. files and the With hundreds of products in a database for a popular ASP cart to put into SCCP maybe this program is not for me. There should be a simpler sure fire method that does not waste an entire day of your time.

Vernon, Here's what I recommend. To make sure your getting the format of your data correct, add a few products to your shop with all their necessary info then export this data to a .csv file. Now open this file and try adding more products to it. Now import it back to your shop.:)
I can't hear what I'm looking at.
It's easy to overlook something you're not looking for.

I have actually tried that in multiple permutations:
1) adding things to the cart and then exporting and immediately attempting to re-import
2) adding things to the cart, exporting, then changing things and attempting to re-import
3) I even tried exporting a CSV file with 2 items in it from a new shop and attempted to upload it into another clean shop as if it were a brand new setup, without touching the CSV file, but to no avail. I kept getting the same stinking error that everyone else was getting.

The only thing that I have not tried yet but of course its the last thing after hours of messing with it - has anyone ever run into issues with copy and pasting data into the product grid? For example, I have combined a few columns say Col a (light wattage - "18W") with col b (bulb manufacturer - "Satco") to create some of the data fields for the cart. In excel it would look like this: [=A2&" "&B2] and then the resulting info in that cell is simply copied and pasted into the appropriate field in the product grid.

Also, is there any way to get around the 45 char title limit? It is exceedingly frustrating to create a title for some of these items because by necessity the actual title is more than 45 char long - thoughts?

Well I never knew this but I found a post that says you can't import new products into a existing shop.:( You can however import to a new shop.:)

I must join the league of VERY frustrated non-importers

I spent well over 8 hours creating an inventory list of all the products to go into my store. I spent about another 6 hours trying everything short of sticking pins in dolls (I'm concidering asking for the name of the programers of this software and trying that very thing) Not that I think it will help matters, but it would certainly go a l-o-n-g way to helping me feel better.

(Side rant)
This on top of finally finding out that SCD Pro saves it's files to

\Coffee Cup Software\Shopping Cart\Themes\My Themes

and SCC Pro looks for the files in

\CoffeeCup Software\Shopping Cart\Themes\My Themes

or the other way around I don't even know any more...................

Notice that one is Coffee <space> Cup and the other is CoffeeCup with no space. Took me quite a while to figure that one out also.
(End side rant)

I created a short inventory and exported it, pasted my inventory into the new file overwriting everything but the tltle line identifying the cells and got the EXACT same errors on the EXACT same cells. By my count these are the option1 thru option5 fields though, not the image fields as I've read mentioned. Here's ascreen shot of the error...

Has anyone tried just leaving those columns out to see what happens? Actually I guess I'll try that myself, certainly can't hurt anything, unless it bnlows up my computer, which right now I'd have mixed feelings about.

To kinda add to what Eric said, you can only import into a totally empty shop, no categories, no nothing! The errors themselves are not really an indication of a column error (at least they weren't in my case).I'll have to dig around a bit. There's a file that stores all of the categories for your store. For me I renamed it with an underscore_old and then restarted the store which allowed the program to re-create the category file of the empty store. Then I was able to load my csv. But it is a one time deal, if something goes wrong you have to start over. You could just create a quick blank storefront and try importing your csv file into that.

In the folder where your shop files are stored, find the file called categories.xml. Rename this file to categories_old.xml. Restart your shop, it should not have any categories. Now load your csv file and see if it works.
Let us know how it works out.

Jefff, <--Is the third f intentional?

many, Many, MANY thanks for the insite. Still had some minor problems but it FINALLY took.

Almost think it would have been faster to type them in, but over 900 items, whew.
