just have it update inventory before a upload takes place

We've discussed how to manage keeping data in sync between the Website and the local software. I think you'll like what we have planned there

I would think the most simple way to do it would be:

vendor sets Qty in stock when they create or edit the listing
Cart decreases stock remaining upon checkout (auto-decrement)
Cart will not process the sale of an item if Qty is 0

I've got a complete cart in mind that I would love it if you could look it over, submit it to your programming department and post some of the features and such for others to give a yea or nay on.

I agree - this is needed - I am running into this issue now.

Right now we are trying to figure out the best way to accomplish that task. We really want to stay away from anything that requires MySQL as think it will just complicate things too much.

We have a few ideas that we are thinking of internally and I am sure you will see something that will fit most need in the upcoming months.

The main attraction of CCSC is that it is self-contained, easy to use and doesn't use MySQL.. yeah, it wouldn't bother me if it did but there are lots of folk out there that it would be a big "NO,NO!" for straightaway.

I can't imagine that it's going to be too difficult to include some sort of flatfile data management into the scripting that will keep everybody happy, getting it sync'ed is the issue.

I have one customer, a wonderful old lady in her seventies, who has a online shop using Roman Cart (50 UKP per year!), retailing about ten lines and using Paypal. Actually she doesn't need inventory control as she is the UK distributor for her product so all I need to do is to convince her to migrate. Take another scenario, someone in the antique business. Whilst they could set up a shop, their issue would be that they could likely sell an item multiple times before they read their mail and removed an item.

So the minimum, as has already been suggested, needs to be:

Set stock level
Auto decrement on sale
When stock level is zero, either post "Out of stock notice" OR remove (or not show) item from cart, which would be ideal for the antique dealer.

I couldn't agree more. I purchased this software before I realized it didn't have inventory control (my fault). If they don't put some sort of inventory management in it soon I will have to call it a loss and move on to something else. Oh well ... it's only money.

Something like a Windows ini file is probably all that is required.
