I am having a similar problem with there being no confirmation of anything being added to the cart. I am using the Gift Shop theme which has top navigation and so it doesn't have a "cart summary" graphic that some of the other themes with side navigation have.

Any workaround or way to add a cart summary to the top navigation? Otherwise, the page just blinks and the visitior needs to actually click on "View Cart" to see if anything was added.

I have to agree - along with the "whiny customer" of a previous post. With most shopping carts there is a distinctive change of some sort to let you know that your item has gone into the cart - maybe a cart that pops up, a cart that shows a quantity in it - something that obviously reflects a change that a user can easily notice. With SCCP, there's a little blink, then nothing apparent - unless you know exactly where to look. And even then you might have to add 2-3 more items to see if it really changes anything.

I don't think the customer mentioned above is whiny in the least. If you can't have a cart that's at least somewhat similar to the bulk of the others out there, I don't believe you have much chance of selling anything through it. People on the web do not have the patience to sit and peruse every page that comes up for possible changes.

I just set mine to go to the Shopping Cart each time, with the thought that it's the lesser of two evils. At least they can navigate back to where they were - or anywhere else - if they want to continue shopping.

Bob - The customer in question, had a clear update on the left side of the shop page. As soon as I (or anyone) clicked "Add to cart" you could see the addition immediately in that area. Yes, we are all told and chant "Customer is always right", BUT there's a clear cut "Except when they're wrong"... Taking a customer to the cart/checkout, as I see it from a shoppers viewpoint, is like showing your customer the door and saying "OK, you're done now. Pay-up and head out." As I stated before, and I'll say it again. I (and several people I know) will LEAVE the site without completing the transaction if I encountered such a scenario.

Yes, I do feel that all "Themes" should have a clear cut area that shows the additions to the cart immediately. BUT since his did, I have to say he's being rather bull-headed to not even consider that this is an acceptable solution.

I didn't realize that this does vary by theme. Indeed, the site in this first post shows the cart clearly on the left.

However, I have my "trial" cart set up at http://obglass.com - and set for "keep shopping". I can click repeatedly on "buy now", and absolutely nothing changes on the screen. But I go to the shopping cart and find the 10 or 20 items I clicked for.

If some themes are not able to function the same way as others, should they even be included as choices? I've had serious time involvements in other themes, only to find out that there's some minor point that keeps it from working.

Personally, I like how some of the newer carts show your item "flying" into the basket. A little animation effect that leaves you understanding the item was added to the basket. :)

A possible solution and an easy one would be to pop up a little message dialog box that says that the item WAS added. This would ba great place for two buttons, "Continue Shopping" and "View Cart". With the customer thus notified I would think "Continue Shopping" would simply make the dialog disappear and leave the customer in the category where they were, as this was obviously thier preference, but going to home or the categories page would work too.

I did choose the theme I use with left navigation mainly because it does keep a cart tally in the left column.

My big question now is - which theme with "left navigation" shows the "cart summary" the way the example in the initial post shows?

It seems that the only templates that offer "left navigation" are the "blank" ones - but I've tried each of them and can't get them to produce a "cart summary". And I've been trying the templates in both SCDP and SCCP.

What's the trick?

Bob...I am not going to enter into any more detail about the cart as I see that the point has been well thrashed. All I want to do is point out that your logo (I assume) in the top left-hand corner of your store...is just a tiny square blur. Or at least...that is how it displays for me. Probably needs some attention given to the sizing.

Bob do as Janys suggest and re-size that image. Here's a link to the actual image and you can't read it at the original size so it's not going to be legible by stretching it. You just need a new one that's already the correct size before you bring it into your shop.:)
I can't hear what I'm looking at.

Thanks, Janys and Eric,

I had that blur there through all sorts of manipulations in the software - just could not get it to go away, whether my regular header was there or not. And I don't know where it came from, either. But I finally figured it out, and am back to where I wanted to be with the header.

However, my question about the shopping cart remains - which template do you use to be able to have the "cart summary" show up, as the initial post of this thread did? It seems ideal to have the cart (or at least what's in it) visible on the shopping pages, and I'd like to do that same thing.

Janys, the subject may have been well thrashed, but there's no apparent answer to this question in the thread - only that you apparently need to have a template with "left navigation". Is the answer in finding the right template, or in knowing what to do in the "blank template with left navigation"? If it's the latter, I have no idea how it might be done, and would very much appreciate someone sharing some clues.

Have something to add? We’d love to hear it!
