Can I Restore from Server - Post ID...

The laptop I had the latest version of the cart was in an accident and was demolished. I had a few generations back on another laptop but would take a lot of work to bring it up to speed. I do not see a backup .SCC file on the server. Can I download the cart from the server and use it as the backup to restore the cart to the latest version?

Thank you

Hiya Nick,

Unfortunately there's no way to use any files for the programs other than those it creates so the .scc file would be needed for the Creator programs and the .sct for the Designer program. I am afraid that if you do not have backups of those 2 files (I bet you will after this though huh?) you will need to start from scratch and rebuild your shop. Should always keep backups either online or somewhere else offline that isn't on your computer such as an external harddrive or the myriad of cloud based backups that are free out there like Dropbox, Box, iCloud and at least a dozen more mainstream ones that you can use for backing up important files like this.

Good luck and I truly hope you do have them somewhere, but good luck on the recreation if not.

Thank you Jo Ann,

It was actually backed up but a fluke moment the portable drive and laptop were destroyed in an accident, together. It would be nice if those files could auto upload to the server as a backup or at least an option to do so as added security (hint for future release). At least I have an older version on another laptop and will just do a view source from online and grab most of what I need. Then copy and paste the updated writes up for the items from online.

I appreciate the heads up, I figured that was the answer already. But was hoping I could manipulate something.

So sorry to hear you lost all that, glad you have at least an old backup of the files though that should help some.

A little tip here for copy/pasting in the program. Be sure you paste it into a Notepad type program (not a word processing program) so that it strips any extra hidden code. The Shopping Cart Creator programs do have that issue (well most programs do really) that they will pick up hidden code and give you a hard time so be sure to paste it into a raw text editor to strip that code out then copy and paste it from there. That should help you get things up to speed without too many hassles.

I remember doing my shop years ago and having that happen, I think I drove Scott here crazy with trying to figure out what it was when I finally realized what it was hehe. Was easy to fix once I did, but dang what a pain lol, so definitely do that.

Good luck with it Nick and hopefully it won't be too much hassle for ya to get it caught up to speed. Don't forget to use a cloud based storage to keep it safe when you're done and even while you're working on it :)

What kind of accident?? You know, you can remove a hard disk from the laptop and buy an external case to mount it in. Then just plug the usb into your new computer and you can access anything on the drive.

As long as it's not the 'drive' that was demolished.

I just looked at a store on my server and under my shop dir there is a sub-dir named 'project_files'.
My .scc file is in that directory.
