basic questions

Hi, I apologies as these are basic questions but I can't seem to find the answers on any other threads..

1. Is there a way to give a different inventory SKU number for the same product but different flavours when I add an 'optional field'. As essentially they are different products and i need them to say sold out once a particular flavour is!

Also, could somebody explain how I add the number of stock i have?! Is it because I'm currently only using the demo if Sccp that the inventory button at the top isn't working?

Many thanks, I'm impressed with this software and will be purchasing it very soon.

Hi there TM,

There is no way to add sku numbers to the colors when you have it as an option field. What you would have to do is set up each flavor as its own product. The way i would set it up is make one main category like "Suckers" and make sub categories of "Grape", "Cherry", "Orange" and such.

You cannot activate the inventory system until you have the website live. Then you go into your Store settings and turn on the inventory tracking. It will require a URL to be entered.

Hmm.. That's a bit of a problem. As these are exactly the same poducts but different flavoured drinks. It's going to look a bit silly having the same products listed, sometimes 5 or 6 times.

It's really not that big of a deal for making a separate product for each flavor. You don't really need to waste a sub category on the flavors either. I would keep the subcategories for different "types" of a product and let the flavors just make it seem like you have more products to sell which is a good thing. :)

It works pretty good so if you are selling something like Suckers, Cakepops, Drink Mixes etc. you can make the categories for them and put all the products in there. If you have different types of them such as a Drink Mix category could have sub categories something like:

Drink Mixes
.... Fruit Drinks
.... Teas
.... Chocolate Drinks

Etc. and then put all of the products that go into those categories, regardless of if they are the same exact product of different flavors, into their respective categories. As I said, this just makes it look like you have a lot more to choose from and people won't mind at all. Just be sure that your Short Titles are descriptive enough that they can see what they need to see without having to click on the product and you will be fine. :)

I suppose it will fill out the shop a little as I won't be stocking a large range of products initially. Thanks for the advice.

Just as a side note, can these shops designed in SCCP become SEO friendly? Does anyone have a shop that they have created through SCCP that is receiving a large number of visitors through organic SE? I know SEO is a complex subject... and the majority of my traffic wont be through search engines.. but I was just wondering it is do-able for years to come? Many thanks

It does a pretty good job. Remember there are SEO settings within the application. As for you specifically it really depends on your market and who your competing with. If your product is for a niche market you will do well.

I have created many shops with sccp and most of my clients have done very well.

As for is this a good product to go into the future with I would have to say yes and no. The application is solid and dependable but is it the future I would say no. There are many shops out there right now that are 100 times better that are responsive and have many more features then it does.

But as I understand it coffeecup will be making a new shopping cart that is supposed to be cutting edge. I can't wait :D

Hey,

I know this is sort of business related rather than software. But you guys will know what I'm talking about! Am I better to just tie in the shopping cart with my personal PayPal account? Or set up a new one for 'the business'? For what it's worth I'll be operating as a sole trader.

Will customers see the name of the PayPal account they are paying in to? Either at the time or on their statements. It will look unprofessional if it just shows as my name... But it will be easier to manage.

Cheers guys. You lot rock!

You can alter what appears on the statements in your Paypal account.
I can't hear what I'm looking at.

I suspect that Jo Ann has used her new, in-costume picture for some time. I am just slow to catch on.

But where is her frying pan?

Hey all,

A few more basic questions! I'm not too far off uploading my shopping cart. I've kept things simple but I think it looks clean and tidy. Ill send a link when it's up.. First though.

Does the cart automatically send receipts and invoiced out? Or does PayPal do this automatically? Or do they have to be done manually? Ideally I'd want a receipt sent out to the customer and also to me to notify me of a sale.. All advice is appreciated.

The inventory situation, I'm not too clued up on how that exactly works, bit it's hard to figure it out until my site is live! I'll cross that bridge when I come to it! I'm thinking I'll place a couple of orders for myself, to get used to all of the systems and how the inventory automatically changes. Is this a good strategy?

Thanks guys.
