30 item limit? - Post ID 153095
I just had a customer email me saying that he gets an error:
Order error
I just tried to make a fairly large purchase of a number of DIY flavorants. Upon finishing and going to checkout , the checkout returned a fatal error saying only 30 lines were allowed. With the size of the order there were a lot more than 30 (the total was to be about $180. Is there another way I can reach you to place this order?
Anyone heard of this or got an idea?

I'm surprised ANY cart limits the number of items a customer can add to an order, as there is just no commercial logic to that?

Are you saying that your customer had problems checking out when the quantity was 30 for a particular item or when they tried to purchase 30 different products?

Hi Scott
He tried to order more than 30 different products
I just tried it here with my shop with 35 items and had no problems.

He emailed me his order because he can not get it to work on the site.
Turns out he ordered 113 units of 64 different products.
Could it be a problem between SCC and Authorize.net?
Perhaps you should submit a large order on my site so you can see exactly what the problem is?
If you do I will just void the order before the batch processes.

We have no technical limitation in our software. If there is any restrictions it would be imposed by the merchant. Did you try replicating it on your shop?

Nope, I don't have time to trouble shoot it ATM. Thank God the guy needed the stuff bad as was willing to do a lot of work to get it! Most customers that spend the time it takes cooking up a big order and selecting everything would go elsewhere when the cart didn't work (Thank J.C. I am the sole source of a few of the items that customer wanted) The cheesy workaround I did was have the customer email me a list of the 64 items he wanted and the amount of each so I could add it all together and just create one item he could purchase from the site. Normally an order for us would consist of only a dozen or so items, so this problem will not affect me too often if ever again... The next guy can work on the problem for ya

It would appear that the PayPal and Google checkout interfaces do not have the same issue. If no one else is having a problem with it then I guess it is not a problem.
If anyone has an interest in recreating the environment that the error occurs in, the variables we had were:
Must be using SCC-Pro V3.8 Build 3863 Full
Must be using Authorize.Net as your payment gateway.
Must place more than 30 individual different products and variable quantities of each into the cart prior to checkout. For this one we had a total of 113 units of 64 products as I said before.
Must complete the transaction (not just put the products into the cart, but actually attempt to finish the transaction)
Thanks for the help and good luck with that

Forgive me for my ignorance but doesn't Authorize.net include a Virtual Terminal with their accounts? Couldn't you have taken his order over the phone and input his billing information into the Virtual Terminal? This would have eliminated the need to create a single product and have the customer re-order through your web site.
By the way, your shop header doesn't display properly. I'm unable to see the full image.

Yes, my shop had problems after converting it. I was able to fix it in SCD Pro and now my header is fixed. As for the Virtual Terminal, you are correct but it was easier to just knock it out with the one line item and it gave him something to work on while I got his order ready.

Have something to add? We’d love to hear it!
