DNS Troubles - Post ID 165929

I am tring to move an existing site to S-Drive and can't get the DNS changes to work. I changed my hosting plan to a "DNS - Redirect Service Only" plan since the domain was registered through the hosting company. I then changed the DNS records to the attached file. When I try to "check Domain" it tells me something isn't setup correctly. If I try to open the http://www.hlslutheran.com page I get the S-Drive "There's nothing here yet" page which I would think means that it is pointing the correct way. Any ideas?

You did nothing wrong here. the CNAME looks setup correctly. It just can take 24-48 hours for all the DNS servers to update. Try again tomorrow and go to http://www.coffeecup.com/sdrive/dashboard/#settings and click on "Use Your Own Domain" and enter in http://www.hlslutheran.com and click "Save Settings"

Thanks Scott. I thought the note about 24-48 hours just referred to other people being able to see the new page.

It's been a couple days and I still get the same error when trying to switch to "Use Your Own Domain". Any ideas?

The issue you have is you setup the CNAME incorrectly. This is what you have setup:

www.hlslutheran.com. 85806 IN CNAME http://hlslutheran.coffeecup.com.

You cannot use http:// in a CNAME. It should look just like this:

www.hlslutheran.com. 85806 IN CNAME hlslutheran.coffeecup.com

Try fixing that in your domain manager and see if that helps.

Thanks Scott. I made the change but am still getting the error. I will try later today or tomorrow to see if it is a timing problem.

We now have to wait again for the DNS to filter through the 'Net.

Scott, I am trying to do this too for my brother from GoDaddy....they want the IP addy: only numbers, not the written web addy...so S-Drive needs to provide us with the numerical IP address...at least that is what I need for Go Daddy....

You do not use IP Addresses when setting up a CNAME. Please see these instructions:

Thanks Scott....I followed the top half not the Go Daddy half...and went to the CNAME...and than changed the path of www

I believe the inst for GD in the S-Drive help article, has us trying to change the HOST not CName and it is the host section looking for IP #
