I have a friend who would like a website for her business. I am new to the whole process and this will be her first website also. I found where we can buy domain names thru your website. I just want to make sure I understand the process.
1) When I purchase a domain name thru you is it registered or do I need to do that?
2)Is the $14.95@yr the only expense for the name ( excluding your hosting fee, which I consider seperate) or are there other expenses.
3) If she would decide to have someone else host the site is there a transferal charge or a cancellation fee. Also how hard would this be to do.
4) Is there anything else to do beside purchasing the name, your hosting service and linking to the free account I currently have.

I know these may seem like simple basic question but since this is my first time I want to make sure of the facts and be prepared and not surprised by and unknown situation.
Thank you for your assistance and time.

I can try to answer this as best i can, though for every type of website, there may be slightly different answers, (ie) An information only website, or a shop and cart

First You should get your friend their own free CC account, keep it separate to yours.

Buy domain through CC will simplify things for a beginner because CC will auto set everything up and associate it to the hosting etc.

If you are uploading from VSD or HTML editor, this will also be simplified for you.

if your friend buys their own copy of VSD , it comes with free hosting for one website, which will automatically be linked to their domain and CC hosting (HTML editor not sure i dont use it)

Nothing much else to do or pay for while you are with CC for just one website, if a shop you will need to upgrade to a paid hosting account.

You can get CC to transfer the domain out for FREE to another host if required (unlikely) but it gets complicated.

Started using CC VSD in January 2009, I don't do HTML code, Sales from CC site exceeding expectations taken me out of semi-retirement

Thank you for your help/advice. I am creating the website for her and will be taking care of the site as she is only familiar with basic computer tasks. I have plans to upgrade to the webbie plan before the site goes live. I currently have the HTML editor on my system and the files for the website are stored there. I saw that I could upload the files from there but have not tried that yet.

Since the site is for a retail store and she is OK with the monthly cost I thought the paid plan would be a better choice. The shopping cart is an idea but not for now, it is an idea for the future. For right now a web presence is she wants to start with.

I appreciate the fact that you help with setting things up. I didn't realize all that was involved in setting up a site until I looked in to it this past weekend.
I see on the S-drive plans page it says you get a free domain when you sign up for a plan.
Since the webbie account has up to 3 web addresses allowed. What is the fee for a 2nd or 3rd domain name?
Is the renewal fee the same or higher?
Thanks again for the help.

Remember this is a user to user forum, so i am not CC staff

The domains are appx £10.00 ($15.00) its roughly the same most people are charging.

I dont use HTML editor but i think the upload is the same as for VSD which i use, its so simple anyone can do it, no technical skills required, and i had the headache of trying to learn FTP when i started 4 years ago (SDRIVE did not exist then) wish it had

Have you considered using VSD so your friend could learn as you build, its virtually idiot proof , thats how this idiot manage to get my own website live. It might make editing easier as you go, as he or she might then understand the need to get things reasonably right from the outset, as editing one bit of text on 20 pages, or changing one tab title on 20 pages at a later date is a nightmare.

My delorean shop in signature, and all my other sites were made with VSD, delorean shopping cart was made with SCCP & SCDP
