Looks to me by the video you need to goto the dns server settings page and enter you full coffeecup account url.
I can't hear what I'm looking at.
It's easy to overlook something you're not looking for.

Paintbrush, all registrar control panels work a different way (especially Bluehost & Just host) (who are mainly hosting)

Try going to add or remove cname records in registrar

Remove the cname record completely (easily put back)

then change the cname record to yoursite.coffeecup.com ( NOTE it will automatically add a . after the com) just to confuse

SAVE

Leave it a day or so 24 to 48 hours, then go to you CC control panel and type in your .com domain name., to see if has propogated yet, COULD TAKE LONGER so dont worry about the :: your domain not set up properly message YET

When it finaly say YEP your domain is set up properly, scroll down page and SAVE YOUR SETTINGS

That should automatically point it to you yourname.CC.com address

Then set CC control panel so SITE is default

And if you get stuck call me on my delorean phone number, i can phone you back FREE

So, I don't do anything with the Name Servers, just go straight to the CNAME stuff?
I'll give it a go.......fingers crossed :D

Here's another dumb question - This site also has a shopping cart. It's all on an SDrive Shopkeeper account. Will the shop also be found under the dotcom name?

Thanks for all the hand-holding - you all are such a big help. Keep your fingers crossed! :)

I wish we called talk on skype, msn, phone so much easier, and i am not busy for an hour

you might hit some problems with the CC.com url still appearing + shopkeeper account for 4 products OUCH

The default, which i assume is homepage will be OK but bottom address bar shows up other CC url , for stream as i discovered i had a struggle hiding it. so i guess same might apply with shop

I just checked, and I think CC may have rectified part of the problem i had with url's (i spoke to Scott in depth about it), so it looks like your.com should show up PROPERLY for all of the site, hopefully shop included

Viv – just got back to the forum and saw your reply. I would love to call, but I'm too late now :(
Let me know if some other time opens up and I'll try you then.

Anyway... I just saw this above the account options:
You are unable to modify these settings because you are no longer on Register.com's DNS. Please click "Restore Default DNS Server settings" if you would like to switch back to Register.com's DNS.

I clicked on the more info link and it went to "page no longer available"

Then there's this page (is DNS the same thing as CNAME?):
http://i48.servimg.com/u/f48/14/58/51/55/change10.jpg

Does this look like what I want? And if so, which section gets filled out?

It took me ages learning, this, so i know how frustrating you are finding it.

Don't recognise that page at all

Scott was very surprised when i could not get cname records sorted easily, can't remember his exact words, BUT

Here goes, if you have yourdomainname.com with registrar ie Register.com

And your website is hosted with ie GODADDY.COM you change the DNS records to i suspect something like ns1.GODADDY ns2.GODADDY (possibly ns3.GODADDY) now i used godaddy as example i know you have something with them, but there dns may be something different but it usually follows similar name.

You domain is now hosted with register.com but you can then go to godaddy and either add on the domain or park the domain with them because the website itself is on their server.

ADD ON points at your website

Parked is slightly different, and on some hostings :: Blue host, just host you can park all your domains so that one website in the rute of your hosting appears as though it were each individual domain.

With S DRIVE what we appear to be doing is parked

Now i hope Scott jumps on me quickly if I am wrong, but i think this is why the advice in CC is to change CNAME records rather than dns records. (UNLESS BOUGHT THROUGH CC in which case they will automatically be parked.)

lets clear up 2 things

(1) is Register.com your account, the clients account, or the original designers account

If it was me doing this (i did this for wedding car site) I opened his own domainmonster account, with his own username password etc, and once it was all set up, gave him control, incase anything ever happense to me, and the same with CC account he has his own copy of VSD log in etc.

(2) do you want the .us .info . net you bought all looking the same, because i dont think in s drive it will work as such, so if you add say .us to CC sdrive account the others will have to be pointed using a re direct from Register.com (UNTIL CC GET THEIR HOSTING COMPLETED)

you can still call if you want help, just sitting in watching the box

Viv,
Reg.com is the client's account, set up by the web designer (his name is on the name servers).
The client's old site and current email accounts are there. The additional domain names she registered with GoDaddy since it was way less expensive than Reg.com.

I think I'm on to something here... I was 'Googling' for more info and came across instructions for the process on Reg.com (not on their site, though ). I haven't been able to get to the CNAME area because of this:

ADVANCED TECHNICAL SETTINGS
You are unable to modify these settings because you are no longer on Register.com's DNS. Please click "Restore Default DNS Server settings" if you would like to switch back to Register.com's DNS.
Learn more <<<This goes nowhere>

Edit IP Address Records
Edit IPv6 Address Records
Edit Domain Aliases Records <<<Need to go here, but can't-See above message
Edit Mail Exchanger Records
Edit TXT Records (SPF)
Edit Pointer Records and Reverse Zones
Edit SRV Records

I wasn't sure if I should just go ahead and click on the Restore Default Settings?
Maybe I'll just do it and hope it all doesn't blow up! :D

Paintbrush,

Just in case this might be the problem, I've found that sometimes when I'm viewing something in one browser that links don't work in (does happen in FF8 at times that a link just will not work, yet should) where I need to open that site link in IE instead and see if it works there. Many times site builders code their sites and mess something up (or do it intentionally not sure lol) where it only works in certain browsers, or they don't know the coding needed to make it work in the other browsers etc.

Try opening the site in a different browser and see if the links that go nowhere happen to go somewhere in a different browser. Just a thought, hope it works for you :)

Jo Ann, since the last Firefox update came through, I'm having a time with links opening. If they're internal they usually work, but external links just hang – they never load. So I already had the Register site open in FF and Chrome
I went ahead and hit the reset option and was able to finally get to the CNAME options. I also copy/pasted the IP number for the A record (per CC instructions).
Now I'll just have to wait and see if I put the right info in the right boxes – slim chance there!

From now on, clients of mine will not be allowed to set up their own accounts!
This has been quite the &%$#*! learning experience :o

Y'all don't go anywhere!!! I'm sure I'll be back asking for help if/when the name change doesn't happen.
In the meantime, I think a time-out with an over-sized cocktail is in order! :P
I wish I could invite all of you over to join me, you're such good help and really deserve a big thank-you!
