RLM Workflow

Hi,

I'm currently using HTML Editor 12.9 and am thinking about taking a look at RLM but am not sure of the workflow.
i.e. Is it a case of exporting layouts from RLM and then adding content in the HTML editor?

If so, is version 12 of the HTML editor okay?

I have some of the responsive themes for the editor, but suspect that these aren't responsive in the way RLM layouts are.

Also, is it a case of having to also buy the button builder?

I'm trying to work out what exactly I need.
It looks like the RLM on its own is not all that is required, so if I need to buy a number of products, I'd like to find that out first!

Thanks.

Hi there Karl,

Yes you can use the HTML Editor to edit the exported files.

If so, is version 12 of the HTML editor okay?

Yes that would work too.

I have some of the responsive themes for the editor, but suspect that these aren't responsive in the way RLM layouts are.

No responsive themes for the editor will only work in the editor. RLM produces its own css and html files.

Also, is it a case of having to also buy the button builder?

You don't need the BB but it is a really cool tool for responsive buttons! You may also want to check out the Responsive Menu Builder. It works well with RLM but is not needed. You can use any menu you choose similar to what you do now with HTML Editor.

Here you can see my project before and after:

Before (This is what the RLM exports):

After (Once I have added content and custom css):

Hope this helps. Bottom line here If you are used to editing in HTML Editor and your ok with coding manually than this is the perfect product for you.

Thanks Steve.

I'll check out those links you put there!

What I am looking for is a quick start using RLM templates so I can produce something quickly and then learn more of what RLM can do as time goes by.

Manual coding is something I do when I have to, but my main interest is in getting the content out there, not obsessing over creating the layout - that is okay if I have time to spare... do you know if the RLM templates give a similar start to the HTML Editor templates or do I have the wrong end of the stick here?

You have to think of RLM as just a bare bones framework and NOT a website designer. Yes they do have some pre-built frameworks that come with the program but keep in mind this will not give you a website just a Layout if you will. I know that CC will be coming out with a program that actually allows you to build websites that are responsive but that software is not ready yet.

Very important to know... RLM is not anything like HTML Editor. Although you will use HTML editor to modify the code. So to answer your question there really is no option for quick starts in RLM other than a quick start with a framework.

I think you will get the picture when you look at my before and after links.

I know its clear as mud! :D

Yeah - that's one of things I'm wondering about having read the article on:
How to add your own images to Responsive Layout Maker
http://www.coffeecup.com/help/articles/ … ut-maker-/

...which makes it sound like working with content in RLM?

Tricky choice!

My initial requirements aren't too heavy - just a few basic pages, so maybe the pre-built layouts in RLM would work.

Those links help a lot - thank you.

Now I just need to decide whether to try RLM or wait for the Responsive website maker - don't want to spend out on RLM only to then have to buy the new software.

Mud - I love it!

You don't insert your own images in RLM, just place holders. You can set the path to your images, but that doesn't become active until you have exported your layout and start changing out the placeholders with the real images.

The span is the most important thing to keep in mind. The amount you assign to elements at each break point as compared to the column count of your grid is where the magic is.
I can't hear what I'm looking at.
