I need to create a responsive site so I purchased RLM and several other Coffee Cup products. As I only have minimal experience with responsive design, I've been looking at responsive templates offered on various websites. Many of these are based on Bootstrap.

Can you clarify any compatibility RLM could have with a Bootstrap based template?
Could there be any benefit to learning Bootstrap to use with RLM?
Are there websites that offer templates based upon RLM (besides the RLM starter template)?

If RLM and a Bootstrap template are not really compatible, I'll stop thinking about learning Bootstrap and just stick with RLM. I want get this question resolved before I waste time learning something that is not really going to be that useful. Thanks.

With RLM you can work with Bootstrap2 grids. Bootstrap3 is said to be included in the next update. But whether you actually need to LEARN Bootstrap... I don't think so, but maybe you will get a better understanding if you do. Others will have to chime in here, as I haven't used Bootstrap yet.

Forgot something:
When you are speaking of 'templates', I understand a site layout that also come with sample text, images, navigation, colour scheemes etc, so that you just replace the text and images with your own. RLM doesn't make that kind of templates, it makes 'layouts', and it's up to you to define the colours, the text boxes, images and all the other stuff that makes up a site. If you are looking at 'Bootstrap based templates', you probably don't need RLM, or at least you can't import the template into RLM. On the other hand, in RLM you can make layouts based on the Bootstrap grid system, or the 'in-house' system called 'Coffeegrinder'. When you have tweaked that layout to your liking, you can save it as a .rlm file and reuse it as a template.
And CoffeeCup has a collection of RLM-made layouts, not just that one that opens with the programme.

Hi Inger,

If I just use a Bootstrap based template (or WP), it might be difficult to make all the modifications I have in mind. That's why I was looking to RLM and the other Coffee products to provide a more flexible environment. OTOH, a template can save a lot of time in getting started. I'd love to find an RLM template that is somewhat close to the design I'd like. I notice that the CoffeeCup store has "themes" https://www.coffeecup.com/store/themes/ … or-themes/ but I've not found any complete templates. Could you please show me a link?

This is the kind of template (this one based upon Bootstrap) that I have in mind - http://www.mojo-themes.com/item/awesome … late/demo/

Or this one based upon WordPress http://www.mojo-themes.com/item/highend … ess-theme/

Thanks for your help.

You can find the RLM templates here:

I have quite some experience with tweaking a ready-made template to fit your needs. It's not always easy. What you need to shy away from, are such 'responsive' templates that are actually 'fake responsive', they come with several style sheets, one for each screen width. And in between the defined screen widths (usually desktop, tablet and phone) you have the layout breaking on you. And also templates that rely heavily on java script, they can really be hard to make changes to unless you are a js pro. Much better to make your own templates with RLM, or check out the mentioned layout pack.
If you don't find what you are looking for among the layouts, you could also check out the responsive templates that CoffeeCup has, for the HTML Editor. I guess Bootstrap templates too are ok since they are grid-based.
