Test connection successful but RED...

I just tried to send a test email - irritating issue. I set up the account, the test email (in the setup section) sends an automatic test email to the sending account. Says connection successful. Then I go to send a test email to a single email address and RED says

Oops, something is missing. Before you can send your email you'll need to connect RED to an email service provider like Gmail or an SMTP Server.

I triple-checked the settings - everything is right. The SMTP server, the port is 465, SSL authentication - test connection sends the automated message to the sending account: "This is an e-mail message sent automatically by Responsive Email Designer while testing the settings for your account."

I've gone through this cycle three times - exact same results. What am I missing here?

Just ran a followup test using Gmail - got the same results using my GMAIL account? Connection says successful but RED whimpers like a spanked puppy about about needing to connect to a provider like gmail or an SMTP server.

Sincerely,

I tested my gmail setup and it works fine. I entered my gmail address and password in the email servers in the email thumbs up tab.
I can't hear what I'm looking at.
