I'm trying to amend an existing web site that uses XML to populate my text data within HTML pages but what I'm finding is that any editing of either the HTML page or XML file results in all XML data within the HTML page being removed.

The only time I've seen this before is where there's an unsupported character in the data. However I'm being careful not to do an overly complicated change in text as a test but still get the same results.

Could this be something in the HTML page web standards compliance that I've overlooked? Or something else perhaps?

Actually - I might have found the problem...

...a misc. character "?" appearing at the beginningof line 1, so I had "?<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>

I'm thinking this was added during the open and save of the existing XML file.
