It there a way to see server side includes when viewing a page (with ssi) in the HTML Editor?

When in the HTML Editor, when I switch from the Code Editor tab to the Visual Editor tab the SSI does not display. It also does not show in the Preview.

No. As SSI indicates, you can only see the page when it is located on your server (on the web), not on your desktop. This is universally true, so it would apply to any html editor.

I do see the SSI menus when I'm editing a page in Dreamweaver.

But as you said, I don't see them when I preview on my computer.

Is dreamweaver connected to your server? I'm not sure how that would work if your menu is on your server while at the same time you are viewing your pages locally. I must have missed something in your post. :(

If you set up a server on your computer, you will be able to view the pages in an external browser by way of localhost, but I don't see any way to get this to work with the built in preview, much less the Visual Editor. DW understands SSI, so it assembles the various page elements internally.

I may be wrong but I believe DW has native support for PHP and SSI.

EDIT: Can't delete post after reading Cary's post more closely. :)
