Well, I took a look at the new Editor, and there is much to like!

The install-over-old-version upgrade process went fine. I like that you moved the themes and layouts into My Documents (Win XP) because that simplifies my PC's backup procedure and allows me to separate programs from data on two physical drives --- Makes me a little bit more bullet-proof against the virus bad guys. (I wish that all apps did the same.) I also like how you consolidated the theme and layout picking into one control.

I saved the previous version's themes and layouts as directed before I did the upgrade. Comparing new with old, I notice that the Default Themes seem to be exactly the same. In that case, I can delete those themes I had saved from the previous Editor version, correct?

The layouts are a different story. I saved 40 variations from the previous Editor's Default Layouts folder. The new Editor installation produces 23 in the Default Layouts folder. Also, the packaging scheme differs between the Editor versions, resulting in its being impossible to view the previous Default Layouts.

I can make the older layouts visible by moving each of them into its own named folder, but is it worth doing so? There must be good reason that you reduced the number of layouts installed with the new Editor version. Please let me know your thinking. You might save my needlessly creating 40 folders and moving files around.

Thanks!

Yes, I looked just like that in 1962.

The layouts are still there. You will see 2 groups now:

-Default Layouts. This contains all the previous ones that have always been in the Editor
-HTML5 Layouts. These are all the new HTML5 layouts.

It could be all the manual copying and deleting you overwrote somethings accidentally.

The themes and layouts folders are located here:

Windows XP:
C:\Documents and Settings[USERNAME]\My Documents\CoffeeCup Software\Themes\HTML Editor

Windows Vista/7:
c:\Users[USERNAME]\Documents\CoffeeCup Software\Themes\HTML Editor

Scott, I agree with halfnium's comments about the new HTML editor.
I went through exactly the same process, only that I did not have any variations on the original layouts. I had always used the regular layouts that came with the original installation.
After the upgrade I found the themes I had purchased and the the free themes included in the package, but have not been able to find the old layouts. I am using windows 7 but no layouts were to be found in the location indicated by you.
1) Do layout files have a specific extension I could use to search for with the excellent windows 7 search tool?
2) Is it possible to download from your site just the default layouts instead of going through the labors of reinstalling the whole HTML editor again?
I do not use the default layouts that often, I that's why may be I am procrastinating on re-installing everything again, and after reading Halfnium's post I am not sure this will solve the problem.

Have something to add? We’d love to hear it!
