Problems with uploading
Good morning!
My web site is www.biltongmakers.com.
I have been using Coffeecup since around 1998 and have had nothing but total pleasure from it.
Very few problems.
However, I have a problem now.
I cannot upload files.
If I change a file and try to FTP it nothing happens.
If try to FTP via another FTP program the changed file does not upload. I fact it deleted the original file on the server and I then need to FTP again but only the old file will then be transferred to the server.
The connection with the server is fine.
Is there anything you can suggest I could do? Until a couple of weeks ago there was no problem with uploading to the server.
Kind regards,
Lo Krijger

Hi Lo,
Do you get any kind of error message(s)?
Does this happen with only one particular file or with any file you try to upload?

I do not get any error messages.
It happens with all the files. I have tried to change a couple and then uploading.
When starting the FTP process the system just stands still. It only tells me that it is waiting to connect to the address 38.113.1.102
With another FTP program it uploads but strangely enough not the saved file from my editor. Just the old file and then only on the second try. The first up-load results in a zero kb file uploaded.
At the bottom of each editor page (the one I have worked on) it says "Doctype unknown". I have many pages on the server and in the editor and have never changed the doc type.
On the top of each editor page it says the following:
"_//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transistional??EN".
I don't know if any of this will help.
I could give you access to my server which is with Bluedomino. Perhaps that might help?
Kind reagrds,
Lo

Sounds like it never actually connects, which would explain the missing upload...?

If you use a different FTP program, you must be specifying the path and file name to the file you want to upload. How is it even possible then that the 'old' file is uploaded instead of the new one...? Do you have both the old and the new present on your local machine with the same name?? They would then have to be in different directories... I'm a bit confused by this...

Your home page has the DOCTYPE specified the way you say, but the next file I looked at (biltong01_King.html) has no DOCTYPE specified. It starts with the <html> tag.
In connection with this, you should be aware that your code has lots of markup errors according to the "W3C Validation Service". Your home page has 185 errors (see: http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http% … mp;group=0) and similar numbers are reported for other pages I checked.
The lack of DOCTYPE and the validation errors should in no way affect your ability to upload the files however.

You need to be careful about giving access to your server! Only if you deal with Coffeecup support directly and if they ask for access, should you consider this.
Have you tried using the host's c-panel to upload your files?
When was the last time you successfully uploaded an updated file?
You should probably contact your host about the problem and see what they suggest, since they can see if something odd is going on with your account and/or your files.

Two things come to mind.
1) Are you using the latest version of the editor? v12.8 Build 691
2) Click 'File/Upload to Server/FTP Account/Add or edit servers Then click on the server you are wanting to upload to.
Click 'Edit'. Click the 'Advanced' button. Check your 'File Upload Overwrite' setting.
Let us know if you are still having problems.

Hello Gunsmoke,
Thank you for your suggestions.
I have done what you suggested under point 2.
When going into the "advanced" part my "File upload Overwrite" is set to "ask" like it has always been.
When testing the FTP connection to the server is works fine. No problem at all.
However, when using the FTP upload in the editor the system only attempts to make contact with the server but does not do so. It just hangs.

Lo
Lo,
I see that you have not updated to the newest version of the HTML Editor. Visit https://www.coffeecup.com/help/myproducts/ and download the new version and see if that helps your issue. :)

I have now downloaded the latest Editor version.
The problem persists.
When attempting an upload, the "Upload file to Server" window appears showing that it is contacting the ftp.bluedomino server but nothing happens. The window then simply disappears after a while.
However, when I go into the server configuration window and test the settings, perfect communication takes place with the ftp server.

Hiya Lo,
How do you have your pathway setup in the Remote Root Folder box? That's usually a culprit with connection issues. Try putting it as:
/public_html/
and see if that helps (if it isn't already set like that of course). If you already have it that way let us know. :)

Have something to add? We’d love to hear it!
