I agree Jo Ann:

1. Remove the Visual Editor completely from the program (i.e. don't just 'hide' it)
2. Look into the possibility of adding some kind of "location matcher" between Preview and Code Editor windows, which is what Hugh was looking for in the first place.

seconded :)

Yeah! Fourth-ed!

But... if the visual mode were removed from the Editor, will it still be necessary to keep the last version which still had it included, so that it can be redownloaded by people who are using it, but then suddenly discover, after having updated, that it is not there any more?

(sorry about the very long sentence, but I did try to put in enough commas...)

If that does ever happen, we will have to take many steps to let the user know about that.

KISS

Leave it packaged the way it is now. Hide the visual tab and create a splash screen on open that warns people of the danger concerning switching between the two modes. Make the splash screen so that the user can disable it if they choose to do so.

the KISS is the simple way, but it doesn't address the original poster's suggestion :P Which in the end is really the thing needed and wanted by a lot of people.

Jo Ann - I have to complement you on your new outfit!:D
Back on topic - I'm just beginning to mess around with html/css, so maybe this is no help, but I'll throw it up here anyway (that didn't sound right :P)... If you use FireFox, install the Web Developer Toolbar and Firebug. When you preview your site, you can use various tools to highlight stuff like divs, images, javascript.... then see the code for that item. You can also try out changes to your preview (without affecting your actual site). Anyway, you could find your item in the preview, use the toolbar to check out the code and make a note of what line # it's at then go back to the editor.

That is actually how it is setup now. People just do not read ;)
