Lisa, can we see some of the code added?

I too have this problem. I use HTML Editor (HE) most of the time, but like to switch to Visual Editor (VE) sometimes to place a link.

When I switch to VE, then go back to HE, it wants me to save the file. Upon doing so, it starts searching and replacing all of the links. The links that originally pointed to the server where our webpages are, now change so that they are pointing to my local drive.

What should be this: src="Graphics/TraceyDesignElements/HeaderTop.jpg"

Changes to this: src="file://C:\Documents and Settings\Kathleen Colvin\Desktop\Graphics\TraceyDesignElements\HeaderTop.jpg"

When I hit "save" and all the searching and replacing is done, I then have duplicates of all text and images on my page. It's a mess.

I used to be able to switch between the two, but since I updated a few months ago, I no longer can.

I would open a support ticket Kathy and let us look at your files and see what is up. Typically that only happens if the markup is so far gone that the visual editor does not know how to read them. Running the pages through Code Cleaner can fix most of these issues.

I would also suggest not going back and forth between the two editors. Stick with either the Code Editor/Split Screen Preview or the Visual Editor. This will help eliminate some possible markup snafu's.

Yeah you want to keep to one or the other. I use to do the same thing long time ago, but it makes sense, since the visual editor is more of a wysywig thing, it is going to put stuff in that it thinks it needs. Kind of a computer mind verses a human mind - they don't often think a like... haa haaa well at least not like my human mind. Guess that is why I don't create computers.

I use the code mode and then just click to preview tab if I want to see how it is laying out. It works the best for me.

You know it be way cool, if Visual Editor Tab had an option to view a split screen "Html Preview". You don't edit it in that area, but you can use the visual drop and drag and then see what the code is producing. Kind of an opposite to code editor with split screen view.

Interesting stuff... I had all this a while ago and now I don't use the
visual editor at all, just the preview, then upload to see how it is there...
Maybe its because though I am new to all this, I have learnt enough
to enable me to do it myself.

However a split screen would be really nice to have, albeit only as a viewer so to speak.

If not, maybe the dialogues that come up when switching views could be be more
informative in the sense that you cannot use or switch between the two, as code
rewrites etc could occur.... As it would be good to know before the 'event'...

Just my thoughts, I am learning, and have turned off the visual editor display permanently, for now anyway....

It still doesn't alter the fact that CoffeeCup HTML Editor has enabled me to do the things I have,
though very simple compared to the stuff you lot do, and is an unbelievably good program.

There is a viewer already built into the program for many years. Just hit F12 and you'll be able to have a viewer on any page you want one on. It's not interactive, but it does the trick for the most part. There is a few second delay between updates so bare with it, but it works pretty slick for the most part. It's also running off the IE engine so there may be differences between what you see in there and what is viewed in FF or other browsers.

OK, I thought I was going mad today. I too would like to change between Visual editor and Code editor. But if I can't... I'm wondering...

Can I work in Visual editor for one session. Then save it, close it, re-open, then work in Code editor? And repeat. Or is it a one shot deal - Code or Visual?

This is the first .html editor I've purchased and I'm a newbie at the best of times. I'm wondering if I should have purchased Visual Designer instead.

It doesn't matter if you save the page or reopen the editor. If you change from code view to visual mode, the code will be changed.
