Hey guy's, what do you think I should take on as a new project? I'm currently on a week's vacation from school and wanted to start something new.. the only sites that I have are complete and need no adjustments.. I start my IT classes in a week so hopefully they'll have something for me, until then Me's Needs A Project!
It's not easy to tell someone what kind of site to make. But I'll suggest something simple, no black background for once, not all those elements positioned absolute, not necessarily those links to Twitter and Facebook. And no fancy scripts.
Take a look at http://www.katerashovel.no. It's one of the sites I have made. It's nothing fancy, just a presentation of a sawmill here in the neighbourhood. What you could do, which you find on the 'Kontakt' page, is a contact form and a google map. That is something you could try. I'm not saying it's a particularly great site, the owner wanted it simple, and simple it is.
A layout with columns is also something you haven't done before, as far as I know. And nicely formatted text with h tags for the headers.
Other members here may have other ideas.

Hi Max, Seeing you are getting deeper into web design then consider looking at some online php tutorials or join the Rapidq community. It is a VB type language I use to create programs. Not difficult to learn. You cannot claim to be a IT guy unless you can handle a Client based language. Although Java and JavaScript do count as Client side. Not the same though. control the real world it is a blast.
One more thing seeing you are a gamer. Check out Autohotkey. I bet some of those at the top of the game use it to give them advantages. Can be used to control programs. Yes even CC ones. How! again seek and learn.
Main advice HAVE FUN

With a week off, that's a perfect time to get a copy of CSS3: The missing manual and go through it from start to end. It has a lot of hands on tutorial stuff and I think that would help you immensely as you're still getting stuck quite often with CSS yet and that's an important (if not "the" important) part of website design today. Get that down pat with your week off and I am betting you'll come up with a great site to do with all that info

I can see that the suggestions from Prism and Jo Ann will be more interesting and fun to do. But it will be even more fun if you actually know what you are doing.
My reason for suggesting that you do something simple, is that there is a lot of basic html and css that you need to master before you get into the complex stuff. With a simple project it's way easier NOT to get lost in the code, and also to find and debug errors.
I used to be a teacher, and I have been teaching this stuff, so I'm pretty sure that the fundamentals are the most important things to start building the fancy stuff on top of.

Half the fun is not knowing what you are doing and doing it anyway.
How many times when you get a bit of multimedia you press buttons before reading the manual.

Uncle's been there, done that...

A bit of studying and practicing the fundamentals of CSS and HTML sounds like a good idea for the week 'off'...

I agree with Inger that the fundamentals are the most important (I think that's what I thought I was saying in my post to Matt to dig into the CSS3 book). I see Matt asking a lot of basic questions and getting lost in a lot of basic things yet, a lot... and most of them are CSS questions which is why I brought that up.
In the end though, I really don't agree that trial and error is the best learner all the time. Sometimes building those trial and errors on actual learned knowledge is a whole lot more productive. Just my opinion of course
